Opening Hatches

having built models for many years, i have to ask why open hatches on a vehicle that has no interior detail. a lot of tyhe time the front hatches would be closed . BUT having seen some of the master class stuf i can see how very cool it is. So it comes down to you, either way do it right, it'll look awesome

I agree nothing inside to see apart from the gearboxes. But main reason I’m doing it because I’ve an Asiatam metal hull which requires removing the top half to gain access to switches and battery. The hull actually has mounting points for a switch just by the radio operators hatch, so if I move on/off and smoker switch there fit open able hatches I can quickly turn on and off.

Good point but the main reason most people do it is to move all the switches from underneath the tank to under the hatches to make operation easier as Tankbear has said.

I put some switches inside the hatches. Also put in a radio operator.

I have used the thread method for cutting plastic. Take your time, makes a neat controllable cut.
The new one for me is saxondogs empty paint tins for hatch rims. must give that one a try.

can see now, maybe i was being picky. having said that though, comanders hatch with a figure, the back of it detailed would look cool.and i see the point of moving the switches, i do it on my planes.

Thanks for the compliment,the paint tins also make a solid mounting for switches or figures, And they have stood the test of time, considering this thread Their is another point I left out,I found that "KITE STRING" to be an excellent saw for cutting plastic. I've tried several type of string,twin,and even guitar strings,but in the end KITE STRING works best and is very inexpensive as well.

Also in 5 tanks I have yet to use the 250ft of kite string.
