Unloading the gun after ramming the shell would have been a major pain - it would be quicker for a well drilled crew to aim and fire what they had, and hope the HE round rattled the enemy crew long enough for the loader to heave an AP round into the breach.
A 90mm HE round bursting on a steel hull would probably have made the whole thing ring like a cathedrel bell!

Any more information on the Super Pershing, e.g why more were not produced??
Sure would have been very useful in Korea

i, cant take the credit, Keith found it!
but yes i assume more we'nt produced because the war ended, and yes a few more were made and used in the Korean war i seem to remember, but only 2 in WW2 ...

Because after the war the M-26 became the M-48 with an improved 90mm gun.

How does the Super Pershing's (aka T26E4-1) long-barreled T15E1 90mm gun compare with the T48's upgraded 90mm gun?
