Hi all,
As promised, here is the set up I used.
The mini cam and reciever came from "Bigboysstuff.co.uk" here is the link.

The TV I used was the Orbic 7" LCD colour TV/Monitor (not sure if thats still available ) but any portable TV will do.
I fixed the reciever to the back of the TV and adapted the bracket so I could fit the whole assembly onto the top of the controller so it was easy to view while operating the tank.
Both TV and reciever work on 9-12V DC, so I linked the two supplies to a Tamiya type plug and bought a 12V racing pack to power them.


The hard bit ,for me anyway, as this was a retrofit to my existing Tiger 1, was to make the top of the turret removable to fit the cam and be able to change the battery. I wanted all round visability, so it had to go in the turret, but if fitting to a new build, you could extend the cable so the battery is in the hull.

You can see the top/rear of the cam in the bottom left of the pic and the P9 battery is velcrowed to the side or the turret centre right.
Total cost is around £150.00 (£50 cam and reciever, £50 TV and £50 racing pack)

My aim is to have a fat shark POV system installed on the Merkava when it's finished. Just got to keep it quiet from the wife.

Below are links to a post and video from something I did to my Sherman a couple of months ago. It's an onboard camera setup that I use with a head tracker and video goggles. It has pictures and a breakdown of the parts as well as where to get them. I've seen newer and less expensive components come out since then so anybody who wants to try this now probably won't spend as much as I did.

Did you make it with the heads up display telemetry, It's pretty cool to see all the info such as heading, speed and elevation - Not that our tanks go up that high ;o)

I have a similar setup donut. As soon as I have integrated my DBU into the cupola I plan to build a new mount for my camera pod so that you can drive from the commanders view.

That is the Rovio controller board. I want to install at least the control board and get video and if I'm sucessful with that, maybe try and splice the motor controls so I can control the tank with the web interface. If I run the rovio power in parallel with the tank power will the voltage be enough?

Since Rovio's movemnt is very similar to a tanks (minus the third wheel), I think I may be able to use the default controls for Rovio to control the tank using just the front two motor controllers (which work without the wheel sensors).

What say you?
