Me again. Now that I'm really looking at the very first picture you posted that shows the pinion gear sticking through the bottom of the turret floor, I'm beginning to think that you didn't use any of the additional drive gears for the 3 to 1 gearbox at all, but just used the motor and pinion gear from the gearbox alone. If that's what you did do; is the turret rotation speed too fast? -Mike

Hi Mike ,build the gearbox with the slowest rotation for the best scale look. I use a plasticard base and glue the gearbox to the base and the base to the turret floor. mount the gearbox while the turret base is setting in position on top of the lower hull, the ring assembly is designed so the turret base cannot crawl away from the ring gear.
Understand the plasticard ring actually rubs against the ring gear so as the unit turns the pinion gear can't move away from the ring gear.Perfect mesh and no sloppy motion. Now I have not worked out the Heng Long version yet but the only issue is the Tamiya rollers will need to be used on the HL Tank or a simular assembly. I have even considered just glueing in the turret ring guard and allowing the turret to rest on this. ALSO THE RING GEAR IS FROM THE PANZER IV TANK.

Thank you for the extra picture, Blake - that helps a lot to explain things for us slower viewers. So now I can see that you do use the entire 3 to 1 gearbox, and the plastic piece you used to mount it. What pinion gear did you use on the hex shaft to drive the against ring gear?

In the 3=speed crank axle gearbox instructions at the bottom of the page a pinion gear is shown,no part number given the note states "not used" this is the gear I used. On the instruction sheet for low speed gear installation.
Hope this helps,Saxondog

Thank you again. I now see the "not used" annotation on the instruction sheet, and also see that the gear IS in the parts bag. No more dumb questions from me - it's time to start getting things together. -Mike

Mike, their are no dumb question except the one not asked, all levels of skill represented on this forum. Please ask anything you like,I did not create this modification but learned from the man who did,and learned by asking the same questions you have asked me with one difference the tank I purchased form BUBBAJOEXXXX and the modification was already in this tank.
I copied it into other tanks and it is a smart solution, turret removal in any position and 360 rotation but make sure your wiring harness is centered under the turret,it is possible to pull the harness during rotation into the path of the pinion gear. Best of luck let me know how you get along, cheers Blake
