I lived in Hong Kong in the late 1970's and in the typhoon season in 1979, HK had a typhoon pass by very close to the former UK colony, it was strange watching the wind help a tree walk across the road

man that weiard .... i was there with my dad and remember that typhoon like it was yesterday ... dad was at 50comd workshops ! and i was on the top floor of a block of flats at broadcast drive .. looking over kaitak and harbour ......
