Rob said it in a nutshell

IMHO the std gears are ok but i went for asiatams in mine and replaced the driveshafts and fitted tamiya sherman roller bearings to the drive housings

the only thing is with these boxes in you need a remodel of the rear end

You can make identical fuel tanks out of 15mm plastic pipe, that's what the spare ones are made out of on the back of mine.

hi all

followed Wibblywobbly's guide to contert to rx-18 this afternoon, and after a wiring battle close to two hours, the powerswitch was set to "on" and happy I was when sound came out, turet turned as it should, mg ligths when fires, front ligth works, and most important the recoil and gunflash works also.

ohh, forgot to write that is also runs like a dream with my metal belts on :-)

THANKS Wibblywobbly' for the detailed instructions

cheers
Steen

Hi,

I didn't find the metal gears helped with mine. It wasn't the gears that died, it was the horrible plastic "bearings" used in the casings that wore oval and allowed the gears to slip out of mesh, which killed them.
I finished up using Walker Bulldog metal boxes & motors, together with the final drive from a metal gearset. I had to modify the gearboxes to clear the underside of the deck, and its so long since I did it that I can't remember the details.
Tamiya electronics, recoil & elevation, standard turret rotation. Standard tracks. Front & rear roadwheels ballraced on ballraced metal swing arms fitted with tension springs (I'll get round to doing the other roadwheels sometime). Idlers & final drive ballraced.
It runs well on this setup and though its a bit slow its unstoppable! No problems with plastic tracks & I would suggest not using metal tracks without first seriously upgrading the suspension & wheel bearings. The running gear is a bit on the weak side.

Have fun with it - with sensible mods they make a damn fine model

Cheers

Peter

I have not done any conversion on my T 34 to HL standard but I´ll use these instructions: http://members.iinet.net.au/~wackywheelz/t34/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They seem to be ok!? What to you think?
