I find that rub-on transfers, used correctly, cannot be distinguished from painted markings, except, perhaps, that they are even crisper in outline. The only truly better means is inaccessible to most of us without oodles of pounds sterling/dollars/yuan/etc.: "pad printing" (actually now using sophisticated paint printers). Those can be so clear as to make 1/16 warning labels legible with magnification.
The problem with HengLong and Torro/Taigen transfers is usually inaccuracy or anachronism. From what I can tell transfers are reasonably accurate. However, I do not pretend to any expertise on the accuracy of the markings, only what I can find in my book(s).
