I agree that a new battery is needed. However, there is another super simple check however unlikely the problem: if your transmitter has a crystal in it (as in the photo detail I have excerpted here from what Pavel posted above), make sure the number of the crystal in the transmitter (here #1) matches the crystal number hiding in the battery compartment (bottom when the tank is upside down). If not, let us know. Someone around your part of the world may have extra matching crystals or even a somewhat more recent HengLong transmitter and receiver/MFU board.

Tried to get it going today. New remote batteries and left the tank battery charging all day.

The tank lights up. The remote lights up (after a but of battery rub)

But they aren't talking to each other. 9 years on a shelf remember!

Anyone any help or advice?? Probably something obvious but I'm not an expert.
