I see nothing wrong here. A little weathering and that will do the trick

Some reference here for the various versions including your conversion kit
Oh, and theres nothing wrong there mate, carry on
Paint should be the consistency of milk, and air about 7 -20 psi as a broad stab at airbrush type settings.
As others have mentioned, practice on scrap to try settings and paint thinning, then go your hardest.
Spitting is common to thicker paint/lower pressures.

I have an airbrush but I tend to favour makeup sponges on Russian tanks, give a nice casting effect but perhaps not as rough as some Russian tanks

Thank you guys for all the advice. This project is stopping being fun mainly cause I have no money. Thought I would just focus on the technical today and get it running. Just found that the tracks are mato. They are too short and don't fit the sprockets. #£+&!

If anybody wants to buy this off me let me know. Spent £200 on it and another £70 on the Heng long 6.1s for it, not prepared to sink another £54 on it.

Damn ! I would have that resin turret & bits all day long, but not the rest as I have one already.
Just get drive sprockets to suit the tracks, is that a cheap option ?

I don't know, if Mato wheels would fit the gearbox. I've taken the track back off but the over tensioning seems to have dislodged one of the bearings from the gearbox so the shaft is loose. its also broken the metal part that sits inside the sprocket. I'm trying to remove the sprocket to examine the gearbox but they appear to have been bonded to the shaft and have only come half off. I think I just need to take a break to cool off form it. This week has been a series of disasters and I was trying to do this to relax, its not worked!

The KV-1 is a strange beast when it comes to tracks/gearboxes/sprockets. The Mato/Torro tracks only fit the Mato/Torro sprockets. HL tracks only fit HL sprockets. Problem is the HL sprockets and the Torro/Mato sprockets have a different offset from the gearbox. Switching sprockets means switching gearboxes. I believe the Torro gearbox shaft length is 48mm and the HL one is 58mm. It's much easier to get the tracks that fit your sprockets.

The sprockets aren't bonded to the shaft using any kind of adhesive, but they can press fit on pretty tight. Be careful removing them as I have broken KV-1 sprockets being too rough with them.
