I’ve tried lots of vices (!), but settled on the small yellow Stanley. It’s robust enough for serious metal fettling…

There are other Zimmerit kits around but mainly 1/35.
I found a sheet of Zimmerit but it was made from plastic.
I found a random German supplier that still had the ATAK King tiger 1/16 in stock but it's £45! Is that the right price?

It is if you have a need for it !
As it’s the outer finish that makes the satisfaction of the project visually worth the effort, get the zimmerit andd do find cost savings elsewhere!!

I have been speaking with Rad Schuhart and he's convinced me that the best way is the putty way!
I also like that you can add shell marks with the putty quite easily.

And if the zimmerit is unobtainable or you are unwilling to make your own, (Lots of help on Tips & Tricks) then simply check the dates when it was first applied and when it was stopped and if your build can be fitted within those dates then no problem.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

The problem is I'm not basing the tank on a historically accurate tank. I just like the look of Zimmerit on the king tiger!
So really I have made this problem for myself lol

You really do not have a choice in that case,
Go to "Tips and Tricks" and make up your own Zimmerit paste and do check out the different applicators,
It is a time consuming pain but it is not that difficult.

I use a hot screwdriver to do certain zimmerit.
Takes a bit of getting used to, but for me its better than conventional putty.
As long as the result is what you like, the method matters little !

Great price as usual!

*** EDIT
And then read all the reviews... 4mm play in the head. All the features we need but not the quality :(
