Hi John,

About 5 seconds or so. Not very long.

1. top left chrome switch- push backwards
2. top left right chrome switch - flick forward
3. hold the black button in next to the chrome switch
4 whilst holding this switch, power up your transmitter and then your tank
5. when the red light stops flashing, flick the right chrome switch backwards, flick the left chrome switch forward and the tank should start

if it doesn't flick the left chrome switch back to off, turn your transmitter off. Then turn your transmitter back on and flick the left chrome switch forward again to start
Thanks, Forgebear, I'll try that next time I'm at my brother's, in the next few days. That's where the tank is.

hi Jofaur86, Thanks for the information, but that's the older controller. The right hand toggle switch on this one is for the smoke unit, there's a new push button for the machine gun.

This video shows the new controller with the push-button for the machine gun (and then they show the older version too.)

My experience installing Taigen V3 boards and sound modules and binding Taigen V3 transmitters tells me that Dave is correct: the binding procedure for Taigen V3 is different from the procedure for previous versions. Matthias Lickel, "Licmas" (https://heng-long-panzer.de/de/ or https://heng-long-panzer.de/en/) knows his stuff, and the binding procedure in the first half of the video is correct. I have had good communication from him over the past five or more years.

Dave, did you buy the tank from Lickel?

My brother did, yes.

Matthias is trying to help, but I need to try to at least determine if 1) we're doing it wrong, 2) the controller is at fault, 3) the electronics in the tank are either faulty or wired up wrong.

It's the same, but different :)

The right-hand toggle switch used to be the machine gun on/off switch. You had to turn it on and then go through the binding process. Now, you need to hold the push button in to make the machine gun be "on" while you bind. So the machine gun being on is still a requirement to bind, but the physical control has moved to a different switch.
