Well, i was hoping to finish soon, but these new mods will set me back a bit. I dont mind but the missus doesnt like it when i take over the kitchen table ;). Still, ive found some diograms now which should make it easyier.

Rear tow plate taking shape. Made from several layers of card stuck together. Oil paint was used to tidy the edges as it works well as a filler and gives texture as if the plate had been gas axed during manufacture. It doesnt look much now, but once painted and fitted onto the tank it will all make sense.

P.S. figured out how this plate would work, the plate would be lowered to just below horizontal, the imobilised tank would then be winched up to the ARV (need to add a winch on the back) and the nose of the damaged tank would rest in the 'V' section of the plate, i guess to stop it from running into the back of the ARV, alot like modern tow bars.
Hey...im starting to enjoy this research stuff! ;D

Cheers Stevie, yeh, i had already built the plat form before i received your drums, amazingly enough the two drums fitted exactly right with no need for any modifications, just a quick bit of wash on them as they were, as you know, painted up as africa corps ones.
