Maybe we should take a poll and see if enough time has passed and wounds have healed that we may be able to invite the Brigadier to return?

I'd vote yes, but I keep forgetting that this is a UK based forum so not a democracy, but a Monarchy. We should petition the King? @) @) :/ :haha: :wtf:

Grant us a boon, Your Majesty, and give us back our Crazy Brigadier! @) :haha: :haha: :O 8)

I cannot let this slippage in rank continue, :lolno:
ALPHA is a rightfully proud Marine, (There is no such thing as an EX Marine),
In the British Army a one star is a Brigadier BUT in the American Armed Forces a one star is a General and as an American citizen a General is what he is,
Although if my memory is still working I thought our Hero was a Major General (A Two Star),And in most Armed Forces with retirement comes another promotion, so really he should be a Lieutenant General (Three Star). :haha:
Shaun.

Not to nitpick, Gary, but Alpha had actually risen to the dizzy heights of Maj-General in this man's army. That, with a staggering- and unlikely to be equalled -11,000 plus contributions. In terms of eccentricity alone, and wild animated gifs (of which he was an undoubted master)...he'll never be equalled. :O In the British Army, the rank of 'Brigadier' falls between Colonel (full), and the lowest rank of general officer.i.e., Maj-General. Thus, the 'General' was a general (though a few would add 'pain' to that honorific. A sentiment not shared by many others, nor me...especially :problem: )
In the US, you have the rank of Brigadier-General. We don't

The substantive rank of Brigadier in the British army was introduced in 1947, (one Star)at the same time as Field Marshall became an honoury rank rather than its previous command rank although Active duty officers would in Wartime be commissioned to the rank of Field Marshall with full command duties.
The earlier rank of Brigadier General having been abolished in 1921 when the command of a Brigade was given to officers of the rank of Colonel who while commanding a Brigade carried the rank of Brigadier but it was not a substantive rank and was lost on re-appointment to other duties.

This is pretty close but in the US armed forces a one star is a Brigadier General, and a 4 star is a General. The rest is right, two star is Major General and 3 is Lt. Gen. The jingle is "Be My Little General", Brigadier, Major, Lt., General.

I didn't know he had been promoted to Major General, I just thought he'd get a kick out of the markings and I thought he was fun to have around. I know he can still look so I hope he laughed.

And you guys already know I was just teasing with the stuff about granting us a boon, and yes I know England is currently ruled by a Queen, that was part of the joke.

And you're right about the retirement promotion, my cousin started at 18 years of age as an enlisted man in the USAF and went to OCS, and when he reached 20 years was a Captain but they bumped him to Major for retirement.

So you’re a king because some watery tart lobbed a scimitar at you? What system of government is that? (A lazy quote of The Holy Grail)
