THank you all for such useful advice.
I was thinking about using "Vallejo Model Air" colours and will try and source larger sized bottles (I think they can be thinned down using water).
I have admired Oz's exhausts since the first time I saw them, so I will also be looking into chalk pastels.
Hopefully the next few weekends will be dry so I can use the back garden!

Vallejo paints are excellent, and yes, you thin them with water.
