Hi All
I am getting closer to painting my Tiger and I was hoping some of you could give me some advice
The camouflage will be Dark grey/ Dunkelgrau RAL 7021 and Dark yellow/ Dunkel Gelb RAL 7028
I am intending on using an air brush with matt acrylic paints and finishing with a coat of flat/matt varnish
I have never painted a tank before so the questions are very basic
Do I need to use a primer?
How much acrylic paint would I need for my Tiger (usually the web has the bottles in 17ml size)?
Has any one used MIG products they seem to have a painting kit for reproducing rust?
Once again thank you all for being so giving with your advice and knowledge
Jim

Re: paint job
Hi Jim, just a small tip if doing a cam with "panzer grey" involved. When I did my Winter Tiger in grey with the white running through I used a can of Plasicote Grey Primer to start with the intention of then covering with Tamiya Germa Grey. When the primer was dry to touch I proceeded to air brush on my Tamiya Grey - I could not tell where I had covered! What I am saying is there was no difference between the Plasticote grey primer and the tamiya German grey. So I guess if you have other tanks to primer now, or in the future, you may want to try a can of Plasticote and then when dry you could add your second colour.

hi Jim.
yes you should prime the tank first use either a dark Grey or better still black, the black primer will also work as a shadow underneath the panzer Grey.
get two jars of panzer Grey (just in case).
MIG pigments are fine i sometimes use them but i much prefer chalk pastels they are pennies to buy and come in a huge range of colors.
this is a tiger i did with pastels before i binned it, pastels tend to stick better to the paintwork than pigments do and are not prone to rub off if you have to handle the tank.............oz

Re: paint job
Hi Jim Your best bet is to get about 4 containers of 17 ml paint ( your choice of colour ) and at least twice that amount of acrylic thinners as you will need to dilute your paint by at least 50%. Remember with spraying several light coats are MUCH better than one heavy one. This I know through bitter personal experience ::). What you don't use this time will come in handy for a later project " trust me " on this
. As with every modeler how much paint you will use depends on your individual level of preference, experience and skill. I ALWAYS get more paint than I need to cover any deficiencies I may have ( see last sentence ). However never fear practice makes perfect as they say ( and a lot of swearing under your breath helps as well ). Hope this helps, and best of luck on the spray job.

Re: paint job
The Vallejo Model Air colours can be used straight from the bottle. I used almost an entire bottle of Dark Yellow but only a bit of the Green and Brown on my Tiger.
