thanks everybody for all the helpful replies. I dont have the tank yet even, i got it used from Ebay for $135. I have not even seen the battery yet, but from the advice everyone is giving I'm guessing this one would work?

I will wait til the tank gets here, of course before buying anything else... I already sent away for the Russian tank painter set, depending on how good the factory paint works, or not, since up to now every Russian tank I ever saw in the field was that solid green they've used since WW2

They're only the dual sound set-up. Haya did some with recoil on 27MHz, but that's a modification.

The issue with them is the size of the battery compartment - the hull is very shallow so the normal packs won't fit (they've taken a lump out of the batter box for the BB unit). With a bit of creative thinking the slim LiPo's fit nicely or you need to cut out the box.

That sounds like the Haya special. I take it you bought Lefty's collection?

Fair enough there were a couple on EBAY (probably his other sites) too, I wasn't convinced by the controller description.

Its a Lipo. These are smaller, but powerful, and potentially more hazardous then the Nimh battery that comes with most other heng longs. I know the dang thing doesn't fit its hole, I just got one of these neat little tanks and that's the only thing that bothers me - going to have to take a dremel to the hull just to make the battery fit.
Incidentally, do not use the same charger for the Nimh battery! Even though there's a Tamiya connector for it. Lipos will swell and even blow up if you charge em wrong.

The battery in my Heng Long T90 is a Lithium ion not a Lithium polymer.

The battery does fit, it slots into the side of the box.

There's a relatively easy solution to fitting somewhat longer packs. Say, 2000mah zippy's.

If You open the tank, You'll see that HL used a small, 4cm x 1.5 x1.5 boxy extension to the side of the battery compartiment to hold the pack.
Remove that boxy thingy, it has just one screw holding it in place, and You can fit f.i. A dynamite 2000mah speedpack, or any other small-form packs.

Only problem I can think of, is that those 'more professional' packs usually come with High-amp T-Plugs, or Euro-plugs, so some soldering is required. The reason they come with those high-amp plugs is that those small packs (and their bigger brethren) are used in amp-gobbling rc cars, planes and boats. Tamiya plugs -invariably- melt into a nylon blob, possibly causing shorts and -rather expensive- fires.
