The trick is to spray perpendicular to the surface, use thin layers so you don't get and runs and you should be ok. Even on zimmerite I've had good results, on a flat surface you should have no issues

These were all masks and airbrushed, came out nice even if I say so myself!

No need for any modesty Tom, Very nice work which illustrates the point I make about how decals and Painting work well together,
The fire extinguishers multi-colour decal and the Turret painted numbers complementing each other perfectly.

I used masks for the kv I found them relatively easy to use. I see on your Tiger you have a black outline around the numbers, now that looks tricky!! mask or freehand?

Hey Jake, all masked, it's a case of getting it lined up nicely. I've done a few and they've come out ok. Just take time to apply the mask

Jake if you go to--
http://www.welshdragonmodels,co.uk
They sell the "Thunderbird models" Tiger 1 Paint Mask which comes with an edge that peels separately from the centre which can also be independently peeled off,
This allows you to paint the edge in one colour and the centre in another it costs about £6.

Thanks for all the advice, going to try decals again with microsol/set and if no joy I'll use masks but in any event I'm going to practice techniques first. I do have the Thunderbird masks but have never tried them yet.

Never really had problems with decals silvering before but the ones on Tiger 1 did and I'd finally had enough of them, after 10 years or so! I will report my progress.

Hi all, ordered microsol/set and the brush pen things suggested by Jarndice so with a little practice using decals and my Thunderbird Models masks I'm confident I'll get good results. I envisage masks/pens for numbers and Balkenkruz and decals for the fiddly little things.

Again, thanks for all the advice, especially the photos which give me something to aspire to! I'll post photos when I work out how!

Cheers, David.
