Hi Guys and a Happy new year to all ! Scratch built some armour for the Turret yesterday and don't think they come out half bad ! Base painted and attached one side with the other to paint and fettle Enjoyed it and will be adding 2 spare track links on the rear panel as and when I find decent pictures of this.......if anyone has some pics that could shed some light as to this

I didn't realise that I was using washes the wrong way until I came across a You Tube video. When I tried this method it all made sense, used a lot less wash, and gave the effect that I always saw on the well finished models. It is so simple I kicked myself.

All I do is work on a small area at a time, get a thick brush, and liberally brush plain water over it. Then get a very small pointed brush, dip it in the wash, and then dip it onto the water soaked surface. It simply disperses it every nook and cranny, and sinks to the surface of the plastic. It dries very quickly.

This way it accumulates naturally where it would on the real thing, and feathers the edges so that there is no hard line. It works like a charm.

For large flat surfaces, just wet the surface, put a few splodges of wash on, and use a thick soft brush to spread it around, don't worry about brush marks, they will all vanish by the time it dries.

Thanks for that WIBBLYWOBBLY ! Great advice and I will be painting the hull and wheels today then the weathering will begin I think I will start on the fuel drums first to build my confidance up ha ha

Hi Ken, thanks for that mate.........my confidence is building up for sure Sprayed the wheels and chassis today so now all the base coat has been applied ! Must say I'm really happy with it......and now the dreaded weathering begins

Hi Mark I'm not an expert but one trick I use when trying to weather and get the desired effect is spraying my primary colors on a test area or a test piece of styrene sheet (or a spare plastic hull I have many of these) Even a spare wheel or turret that I have kicking around the shop.... Then I applied my colors on so if I make a mistake I can keep sampling.

Once my mind is made up I can start to work one area at a time ( on this beast it may take a while). Then you can use your same test procedures and colors on the challenger and change up as needed.

I went though three different camo patterns on my current jagdtiger before I even airbrushed the final product. Then the weathering....


Obviously you can correct your wash by starting over or modification along the way....

I know there are many members on here that are much more experienced than me so I approach it like this:

1. Remember some of your accidents ( I have many of these) actually will lead to positive results!

2.Have fun with it and don't forget to enjoy it even of it gets tedious or you need to start over
