Only just stumbled across this thread. The Sherman rolled because what the camera does not pick up is how there is a ledge at the top of what is really a near vertical drop down the hill. The Sherman goes sideways over the ledge and gravity takes over. The other tanks either follow the ledge down around the U bend, or go straight forward over it and down the hill. It's all to do with camera angles.

The best way to go down a steep incline is plunge straight down, if you turn sideways you risk a rollover.

Just like in real life the Shermans are easy to roll. I was watching a show on the History channel about tanks and they were talking to a WWII vet who rode in Shermans and he was telling about how his Sherman and 4 others rolled into a town where they knew the Germans had tanks. As they were looking for the Germans the driver of his Sherman hit a CURB off center and flipped the tank on its side. The other 4 left them and were all destroyed with no survivors within 10 minutes of his tank rolling over.

So hitting a silly CURB not right and his Sherman rolled right over! I don't remember him saying it but I'm thinking the curb was also on a road with a hill cause I mean come on hitting a curb can roll a Sherman? Doesn't sound right to me but who am I to question him when he was there and lived through it?

I should mention that the guy who rolled the Sherman should have known better, he is an ex-autocross racer, lol. It was repaired without too much work. The cinematography is excellent, mainly due to the rather expensive video camera that was being used and having a BBC cameraman operating it. :D

Agreed, the Sherman driver and the Axial rc truck driver don't know how to choose a downhill line. The truck is also overloaded, making it top heavy.

I watch the video again, at the slope that both Tiger and Sherman past they actually lost control and slide down. However, the Tiger has more luck than the Sherman because the Sherman slide to the side.

Guys, I was there, I am in the video, lol. The Axial guy was thrashing his truck around and deliberately crashing it, he was just ranting the thing around and didn't care whether it crashed or not. He rolled it plenty of times.

The Sherman rollover was due to nothing more than something that you cannot see in the video, it was a very narrow ledge, and one false move makes a tank slip off the edge.

It is at a place called Rhoose Point in South Wales. The course around the area is deliberately mapped to make it as difficult as possible. Some of the slopes are almost vertical and loose shale, and it's more luck than judgement as to whether anyone completes the course without crashing out. It's the best outdoor place for running tanks that I have ever come across, it's huge, the tank course takes about an hour to get around. The amazing thing is that all of the terrain is perfect for 1/16 scale, and tank battles with long range IR shots are excellent.

It's also full of lakes, so good for boats and amphibious craft as well. I wish it was nearer to me as it is the best place in the UK to run 1/16 scale tanks. I have spent the day there a few times in the sunshine and not got bored. :D
