Hey Painless, those are the same GBs I'm using except mine have brass gears. The thing I don't like about steel is the noise level. I have a pair with steel gears and those things are loud!

And those look like 360s in the photo you posted.

Max,
I hear you. ;o) I kind of enjoy the ring of the gears and clatter and squeal of the tracks under speed. Armor is noisy * chuckles* These steel gears are the replacement\upgrade for the brass per Dominique. I expect many years of use out of these. The only things that I have seen that look even more bomb proof are the ones from ETO. Following along, sir.
regards,
Painless

these 4:1 from dominque come with 380 motors ...promax 480's any noticeable difference?

Hey Tom, I tried to educate myself about motors (learned a bit but mostly got more confused!) and you should take a look at this chart. This is what I used to learn how they rate these things so I could buy the right motors. It's the buying part that's difficult because finding exactly the motors you want turned out to be tricky. At the time I wanted 360 motors (for small size) but I wanted very high torque and the motor I really want and am still looking for is the RS360SH-2885. It had the best torque ratings and I think I came close with the 360 motors I got on ebay but they seem to have too much rpm to be 2885s. The specs for Mabuchi Motors are the ones you want so check out this chart and then if you get ambitious try google and let me know what you think. Maybe I'll get lucky and you'll unlock the whole mystery for me. :)

I have video of the 360s in a couple different tanks, including side by side with two tanks exactly the same except one has 380s and one has 360s so if you want to see any of that let me know and I'll post it for ya. Or, you could just check out my youtube channel and look for anything that says 360 or time trial. I always reverse the order they display the videos so I'm looking at oldest to newest, and I think the 360s are about 1/4 of the way down the list.

Hope that helps.

Hi jtracks,

If you have an IBU2 then you should be able to reduce the speed of the drive motors using the board settings. On the micro SD card open the IBU2.ini file. you should see a line which reads

PowerMotorScale=100

the figure at the end is a percentage of full power which will be sent to the motors. Reduce this figure and the speed is reduced.
Hi Paul, yes, you are absolutely correct. But the torque is also lost. The motors need a specific voltage to operate at their peak as you know. I'm going to try the motors (395's) that I got from Banebots. They have served me well in my Jagdpanther. It was unable to turn on my carpet when delivered from rctank.de, now, nothing holds it back.

Joe, would you like to try those brass gearboxes in the KT? If so, I have the proper axle shafts and I'd be more than happy to send you a pair (no charge). I seem to remember the ones you bought have 48mm axle shafts? Anyway, I have extras for both 48 and 58 so let me know if you need some.
Thanks Gary. I'll do the motor change first, I believe it will solve the problem. I am also going to try a different TX and Rx. My Taigen tanks running with the IBU2 and either a Futaba or Tamiya radio system seem to work best as compared to my CT-6 radios.

I got the 480's from Phil a few years ago but I think the 380 are strong too and the main difference will come from the lower gear ratio..but heck I can try both but will start with the 380's that come with the gearbox. From what I am hearing people do see quite a difference from the 3:1 to 4:1 ratio which is great.

Hi Fit Black steel 4;1 ratio gearboxes ,480 permax motors , set IB to run with momentum on if this is still to fast reduce the power output to 80% then retest.

I have DBC with TBS Benedini so I can set momentum and no recoil but not motor speed. Looking forward to lower 4:1 vs 3:1 gear ratio with the Black steel gearbox and am curious if the 380 motors it comes with are about the same as the 480 promax I am currently using.
