The thing with MIG and formerly AK is you have to shake the crap out of them to get them to mix properly. I find they separate quite quickly... But for my German vehicles I still always use Tamiya...

I've used Tamiya paints for colors not available anywhere else and always found them to be very good quality. I think with me a lot of it is upbringing, and I've been using testors since I was 8 years old. We tend to stick with what we know and for me it's always been testors enamel. I only use acrylic for stuff like washes and colors I can't get anywhere else, but I know a lot of guys prefer acrylics.

Hallo Max, I hope your weekend is going well?
Like a lot of other members of the Forum I was bought up on 1/72nd Airfix kits as an introduction to our hobby and I always painted with "Humbrol" enamel paints from little tinlets.
But times change and now I almost exclusively use "Tamiya" Acrylics, If I want to change the colours on a Tank it is relatively easy with acrylics but pure hard work with enamels and when it comes to cleaning my airbrush and paintbrushes there is really no choice,
I have the same Tamiya paint brushes I bought 10 years ago and they are still serviceable,
if I forget to clean a brush covered in acrylics I just leave it overnight in a pot of acrylic thinners and next day it is as good as new,
Were I to try that with enamel I would probably throw the brush out.
But there is no substitute for the finish using enamel unless you are neglectful in your preparation, but I will stay with acrylics, it has too many pluses

the color on the KT and the Panzer III....yeah...that pulls more to orange....definitely a case of base coat application...or color blind color mixer monkeys

My current plan is to do the same thing to the PzIII as I did to the Jagdpanther, just have to find the time.

The Cola case is actually 1/12 dollhouse stuff, but I thought it looked cool. Couldn't find a little case of beer.

Bill, mine looks more orange then that perhaps the paint had gone bad?

I guess it could have done. I know they had some problems when they first started but not heard anything negative in a while. I've had AK paints go bad a couple of times but not the Mig Ammo ones. Mig Ammo isn't made at the same factory as AK any more, hasn't been for over a year so that problem went away.

Jarndice I have a bunch of tins of Humbrol, because they have some colors no one else makes. I like them a lot, but over here they're more expensive so I only use them for special stuff. I first got them for a couple colors in the British fighter plane kits I have. One of these days I'll get back to the static stuff and I have a whole pile of 1/32 aircraft kits waiting, including the old standards, the Spitfire, the Hurricane (my personal favorite), and the Sopwith Camel. I still might pick up a Mosquito, because they've come out with some really cool 1/32 kits of that all wooden bird.

I guess you're what I meant when I said a lot of guys prefer acrylic. I know they have a lot of advantages, but I'm an old dinosaur and besides, I have lots and lots of testors, to change over would be very expensive. I remember how mad I got when I spent all that money changing over to cassettes for music and then a couple decades later they made me buy all that stuff all over again on CD!

My weekend is going well so far, working on the IBU2 in the JT, I hope you're having fun as well.

Bill, remember a certain member here who lived in Canada and had his own little on line store that dropped off the face of the Earth? Well it was a "gift" from him on a mixed up set of gearboxes for my KT so he sent it to me probly last July and God only knows how long it was sitting on his self so I'm thinking either bad paint or it separated to the point it couldn't come back, when I would shake the bottle it sounded like it had BB's in it that should have been a clue but hey you never know till you try right?

Ok so I re-did the camo and it turned out pretty damn good, I stuck with Tamiya paints something I never should have strayed from but you live and learn. The one thing I did like in that kit was it had a Dunklegleb that was almost a cream color so I copied that color by mixing Tamiya paints and with the flat brown and olive green it REALLY looks good! Gonna get some more detail bits on it tomorrow and post up some pics prior to its weathering, and any battle damage I choose to do. Not sure though cause everything that would get bent up or ripped off is scratch made out of brass by me so its a tough one to rip anything off or bend or break it, It may just get some weathering and be a "brand new" replacement unit fresh from the factory on its way to the front.

The BB in the bottle is in all Mig paints now, its quite handy when shaking it up. I imagine it will be copied by others.

I'm a die hard Tamiya fan but I'm pretty happy with Mig Ammo paints.
