Sorry guys for the late reply.

Grompix - I must have been really sleepy when I read your post this morning. I thought you said you are going to teach a mod you did on your speakers...lol.

I think due to the limited space inside the tank, the only way to go is to make a passive crossover.

Passive Crossover - Link: http://audiophilewiki.org/index.php/wik ... Crossover/
DIY Passive Crossover - Link: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technol ... 74625.html

It is going to be a lot cheaper to buy a completely made one than to make one. Go to your local electronic store (like Best Buy or Circuit City...something like that) and shop for speakers. Ask for "full range speakers". This should cost you about 17 to 20 GPB at most (or about US$25). Bose would be better but is a bit expensive. Your decision of course will be based on the size of speakers (to fit in your tank), wattage, and ohms. You can see the wattage and ohms reading at the back of the speaker box. Tamiya speaker is a 4 ohms 5 watt speaker. I experimented a sub-woofer having about 8 ohms and 15 watt capability and a tweeter (8 ohms and 5 watts). The crossover is already built into the system so all I have to do is to remove the speakers from its box. This work just superbly. Of course I still have to find out how the battery (and maybe even the DMD or control unit) be able to handle this new power requirement of the speakers once the tank is in full operation. Thus my next concern is the "C" rating of the battery. A 6 cell GP NiMH capable of supplying about 35 amps when needed should do the trick.

This new sub-woofer tweeter combination would enable me NOT to use that crappy speaker unit that came with the tank. The sound it gives is just awful...resonate wildly and the impedance is terrible. Last night, I placed the Panasonic speakers inside the tank, taped the upper and lower hull together, and cover all the holes I can cover, except for those air intake grills (I think that is what it is called). The entire tank came to life. Wish you were here Chris, I am sure you would have liked the 'new' sound.

Oh BTW Chris, make sure when look for a speaker unit, check its speakers. They should be different from one another. If you see three speakers of different sizes on a unit. Don't get that. What you have there is a speaker unit that separates three frequencies - The high, low, and the mid-range. This is obviously much much better, but I really do not know how one can fit all these three in. Please see attached photo.

Weapon, I haven't decided yet. But chances are I'll go for the Late Model. I got the bearings from this ebay seller - http://cgi.ebay.com/BALL-BEARING-SET-TA ... =72%3A1495. I suggest you send an email first and check if he can give you further discount specially on the shipping.

I am slowing down on building this tank. My priorities are screwed because of this...lol. Need to get back to reality and start working again.  ???

Cheers

Wow! That's a really useful piece of information Glory71. I've never heard of a passive crossover before. I must and will give this a go.

Thanks for posting.

Good morning tankers!

Grompix - I really hope that Tamiya would innovate more rather than using the old 'jigs' they have then repackage it to a new tank (ie from Panther to Jagdpanther). I hope to see them in the future improve their sound system. It would be nice if they make a 3-way 2.5 inch speaker placed in a bass reflex BOOM box. The current Tamiya Speaker is ok when it comes to their engine sounds and others but once you fired those scaled down 88's...you get a BOOSH! instead of the BOOM! sound.

Weapon - you should go back playing airsoft. From scaled down tank battles to war gaming with airsoft guns, I think is a good combination. Both is 'crying' with so many innovations. It hella fun and the friendship both brings...that's even better...reaches across the oceans. I am attaching a YouTube video here...check out the Vulcan and the M2 Browning machine guns - scratched built. Moderators...if you don't mind...please allow me to attached this link --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-e9eUAb58E

Has anyone placed a laser on their MG instead of that led light? I was looking at my AEG laser and it gave me an idea. Would probably be cool to watch. It think it would look like some tracers going off the MG.

Cheers!

Glory71: Nice vid! That your team? Filforce I take it is comprised of Filipino and american airsoft players residing in the New York area right?

With regards to the laser, you might try considering mounting / letting the laser pass thru the coaxial MG. But in the case of the Jagd, the drivers periscope would be an option.....

Thats right...my team is Filforce. Most of us are Fil-Ams (Filipino Americans) born and bred in the good 'ole USA. Some of us are immigrants. A good number of our membership are Americans, Brits, Russian, Nigerian, Chinese...to name a few. Our players are spread from all over the North East coast - from Massachusetts to Maryland.

And speaking of RC tanks again (my new found love)...I got these for my Jagd: http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=931. I took a good look at the tamiya gearbox and I think they are so well made I don't want to part with them. I hope this works. I started working on my Jadg again. I'll post pictures later on.

-For now, I think the tamiya TU's will suffice. I might get the suspension upgrades ahead. Have you decided if you're going to be building the late or early Jagd?

Guys,

I need your opinion...I was looking at Grompix's recoil mod (HL StuG) on his youtube account and was thinking; how was he able to do it? I wanted to mod the recoil of my Jagdpanther too and the only thing I can think about is using a spring and cutting quite a few teeth on the gears and make it into a sector gear. When the recoil engages, the spring will pull the barrel (bypassing a few teeth that I intend to remove) and then re-engages again the remaining teeth for that slow return. The problem is, the gears where made of plastic. I tried researching if this will work and I think I found a mod based on this principle...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDDHfXGC ... annel_page. What do you guys think? Comment please.

What I changed so far...

I started working on my tank again friday. Thank God for F1 and coffee I was able to sustain myself for more than 24 hours Saturday...LOL. Way to go Brawn and Jenson Button! Jeez, why do I always gets sidetrack on my post...must be the coffee I am taking in.  ::)

I do not know if it is the design of the tank but I noticed the front part of hull (Upper and Lower) has a small gap in between. That is maybe to let the air in...I don't know. For the mean time, I glued a balsa wood (please refer to attached file photo: Sprocket Wheel Guide) to make the front part of the hull not to have this gap. Later on, I plan to replace it with this ---> http://www.etoarmour.com/product_detail ... tID=16T011 to save on shipping...one time ordering. ;D

2ndly, I noticed that the tension pulleys blocks the lower part of the rear panel causing a 1.5mm gap. I shaved it off a little bit (file photo: Tension Pulley). Now there is no more gap.

Lastly, I finished my new speaker - a bass-reflex type box as a replacement for the Tamiya Speaker unit. It is made of medium density fiberboard 7/32" thick. I hope once done this will give me that boom sound I was longing for.

Weapon...woah! I am glad to know. Small world indeed. With regards to your question, I have decided to build the late version.

Cheers.

I'm waiting for mine too! Have you considered getting the transmission housing from Tank zone?

Great mod! Let us know of the difference!

I'm currently weighing whether or not to do the early model. I'm still in the process of researching their differences in detail. If it proves to taxing financially, I might go with the late version too....

Keep us posted with pix.
