Prior service US Army 63H track vehicle mechanic. My great grandfather was a tank commander in WWII and Korea and I have always loved being a mechanic. Was attached to a tank unit as a recovery crew leader and 3rd shop mechanic on an M88A1 recovery vehicle. Worked on M113 apc, M1A2 Abrams, and M2A2 &3 Bradleys with the Bradley being my main assignment.

Us Navy, 1967-1971. USS BON HOMME RICHARD CVA-31, flight deck crash crew and tractor driver.Then an air traffic controller for my last two years at NAS Alameda.

Hi i was RAF for 15 yrs should have been 22 but hey shit happens' served overseas in Germany spent some time as k9 attack patrol dogs , worked in conjunction with us navy and us marines at a base in uk twice on guarding weapons sec duties they have my utmost respect. Spent 4 years as air cadet before joining RAF.

Started at 12 years old cadets, 15 years old reserves, 19 years old regs. Medically released 2 years later. Like Tiger Tiger says shit happens...

tanker 242 here I served 6 years in the army [royal artillery] mostly in Germany first on abbots then 110 mm long tom, & mobile rocket launcher,

Currently serving, Rifle Company Sergeant Major in the PPCLI. Two tours in Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo and 3 in Afghanistan.

5+ generations of army is why I joined. I had 15 years of extraordinary experience and learnt just about everything a soldier could learn, except how to deal with losing friends. :thumbdown: :thumbup: :thumbdown: :thumbup: shaun

Hi guys thanks for continuing with this thread.

Really good to see all the varied roles and reasons behind why we serve.

Shaun I think that is one thing we can all relate to, it's a very hard thing to deal with. Too many friends were lost overseas.
