If your spending that money I would get a tamiya as your first tank!

You know what you have done? Your asked the fundamental question "SHOULD i BUY A TANK" and of course we all answered trying to be Honest and open,detailing the pros and cons of the purchase you're considering.

Now if you become addicted we may have a clear conscience!

My Torro a fine tank and I am happy with the construction, yet I completely disassembled the tank and although it has been a year to completely finish it,the actual work could have been accomplished in 4 weeks. I really hated the paintwork,and the quality of its application.

My point being paying for custom tanks has benefits if the features collectively save time and money, but the custom paintwork has little appeal for me as the inner wheels,under the fenders and even the inner hulls are not painted and generally show overspray.decals are generally not applied with an coating to protect and aid adhesion, plus by taking the paintwork in hand you also have the fun of picking a front,unit and era to represent.

I like the clean fresh assembly line look,but paintwork remains the most effective feature to realism. Buy a metal edition,if you wish to enjoy and grow in the hobby by painting, grow your skills as well by the process. Contact one of the three vendors listed,if you spend the same money I assure you will receive better value for the cost.

Also the Tamiya option may be explored much better by examining the assembly manuals in the download section, you may then see for yourself the process of construction of their kits. downloads/

Better to start with a cheaper tank to see if you like the hobby first. I had a tendency to try a hobby for a while-the last one was leather craft but leather is far too expensive nowadays might as well just buy the thing-then invest a bunch of money, then lose interest in the hobby and quit. After I knew I was going to be at this model tank hobby for awhile was when I bought the second tank, a tiger 1 (for $65 US but that's another story).

I recommend to start with a basic tank for that reason. Once you know you like it I'd have to say, from expensive experience, the first mod to make is to put the 2.4ghz radio! What good are metal tracks if your radio system is buggy? ( and except for that one they are ALL buggy). When (if?) The radio in your new tank responds erratically ( intermittent response, "ghost driver" behavior) do not put a nickel into fixing the unfixable simply upgrade the radio and no more radio problems.

Most of the fun, for me, is upgrading ...so it might cost a little more to upgrade a bit at a time. But the experience of doing it is priceless and can't learn how the tanks work any other way.

Hi Guys I am new to RCTW i went and bought an updated Heng long TIGER1 from supplier called dingding in Glamorgan it came with metal tracks,gears, smoke, RX18 unit it worked for a day, then i took it apart to paint it in camo, next day it worked for a while then packed up, i contacted supplier they sent out new rx18 unit still no good, they said if i send back tank they would repair it, i took it apart i broke machine gun, two rear clips i told them of my failure an said i would pay , they said no way would i have to pay they would take care of it their customer care was really good they kept in contact all the time ,the tank came back within a week still going well great people to deal with, i have just posted picture of hand painted camo tank on site sorry to be so long winded cheers all
