What I am finding interesting about your research Painless...is in comparison.. it looks like the Germans actually got more mileage and use out of the Kv2....I remember when doing mine... and looking through the books... there was very little in the way of stowage on the Soviet beasts.... but when viewing the images of the captured version... the tank is loaded with extra gear and ammo ...it's even reflected in your growing collection :haha: ....to which I have to say...that 72nd scale is really something.... though I would trim those turret hooks lol

It'll be nice to see how your Taigen progresses... though I think you won't need those boxes or exhausts ..that thing weighs 20 lbs... 85% metal 8O ...she's going to be a great tank :D

Alpha,
You are absolutely correct on all points. One of the last tanks in use by the Germans at the end of WWII was a KV-2, used in defense of the Krupp Werks. The turret hooks? *laughs* Like you, I was dubious about their appearance and looked around in my books and online and did not find any pictures outside of this model with them installed. I left them on because as sure as sunlight, as soon as I had removed them, the reference picture would have shown up. ;o)

:haha: I've actually seen photos of Kv2s with those hooks... thing is they weren't that big 8O ...though from a short distance away...if it were painted grey...it could be passed off as a baby elephant ;) ...just kidding.. it's a really fun size..wouldn't mind piggybacking one on my Kv just for kicks....those hooks would make it easy to tie her down :D

You know Painless those Kv2s must have been a prize for the Germans at the time... Capturing one must have been a challenge... but the thing that made the recovery of one must have been it's durability

Zero Penetration 8O ... probably one way to capture the beast.... ring the ears out of it's occupants ;)

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen!
Excellent Photos of the hooks and of the KV-2 with the 122mm anti-tank weapon added! Thank you for the sweet link, Blimp ;o) The hooks are not 'too' badly out of scale so I will leave them on for authenticity (even on a 1/72 scale paint template model) I discussed the 122mm version a day or so ago with you, Alpha and yes, it was an experiment that was dropped because the IS tanks were in the works and were supposed to be able to provide a better platform than the KV series, especially the KV-2s for that gun. Thank you both again. Excellent and useful research! I love the color photos.

Painless

Alpha!,
I am paying particular attention to all the shades of green on the KV-2s that I see in color. I spent some time on Neal Stoke's site last night reading about the formula for 'Protective Green' on those tanks and all the various permutations that were possible by switching out the dilution agent. It was described as being a lighter green with a yellow tint. *chuckles* I didn't do too badly by selecting the Testors Bomber Green to paint this particular template tank in. Thanks for the color shots there, my friend.

Painless
