Thanks Jessek, the paint and all material is ready, yet the Zimmerit will not be added. Tomorrow should find me in the shop late afternoon painting, original scheme and hope I am successful.

Of course you guys can assist me in that determination.

Joe Caci has a pair of Promax 480 motors coming my way,and along with the New gearboxes this should be a powerful monster. Torro using a FAN Cooled RX18 does demonstrate forward thinking concerning the drive issue.

My two pennies,

cheers Blake

hmmm, have you thought of a third option?

do you think it will be easily feasible to 'delete' the current zimmerit? i mean, eliminating it by way of filling it with milliput or a similar putty?

this way the tank will look better, i think it has to be or covered with zimmerit or without it, but not the way it is as is... what do you think?

best regards

I have managed to re-paint the lower hull and turret in base color.Yet the tone and quality is good the absence of Zimmerite does still have a negative effect.

I have stopped until wed. When I will have time to sort this out. Then the turret must be covered.

Thanks for he suggestions guys.

Well guys the choice has been made, return to original condition. No turret ZIM,and only the Green strips. I have completed the base coloring, including a touch up of the rear panel Jack Block and covering over the green on that side.

The same method was used as the Porsche I did some-months back and the same mixture as before using alcohol to thin the paint, and to enhance drying.

This has been covered with the sealer mixture of Base flat Tamiya x21 and Johnson's clear although 50/50 this time. That is drying now.The base although dry in a matter of hours has sat in my small shop for most f the week. Tonight I sprayed the sealer and have the parts drying inside.

I hope to add the green strips tomorrow if the weather holds above 50,as we are well into the winter here.Seems Hotte has provided the Grill location and some proof of this being different based on Turret mounting.

cheers

A better shot fully dried and Under the light of my Bench magnifier glass, one of those goose neck older type that is invaluable. The finish seems pretty flat, and no runs which for me is an accomplishment in itself.

This was the section with the paint run that I ended up sanding out,the first attempt I was to light in the grit of paper, changing to a heavy grit and really working it.Being metal it is very strong and the fear of damaging the plastic is so ingrained in us that we all may have some new skills working with the fine metal products coming from Torro. Seems I was able to remove all traces of the running though. And the track hangers shown here as well are metal, thought it important to point this out.

Jack Block was painted green, this has been touched up and I will detail the blcok with a brush and some woodgrain effects. The block also contains the on-off switch which prevented removal. The over spray on the exhaust was my fault.

Update, At this time my shop heater is shall we say not working. At O- or in the freezing range of the winter temps I WILL NOT BE PAINTING UNTIL Saturday when the temp rises to 50deg.F

At which point the strips go back on and I shall put this Fine tank back together. The last Photos are still a bit lighter in shade than the tank appears, but with the strips and another sealer coat things should be very MATTE looking.

Now one final question,Decals?

I was considering 501 or 505 with the Charging Stallion preferably with the Green Blanket. Yellow or red numbers and the base white Tactical markings. Any suggestions? Since the lack of Zim makes this a flied rebuild anyway and not strictly accurate, then it seems the decals could be a bit off as well?

cheers

After a long vacation learning, which is very difficult for me, old brain, old body, little intellect but I have now found the time and fine weather to paint the King Tiger.

Not real happy with this scheme, yet it is now the one I have.

Feedback welcome, the decals are not yet decided, and the scheme is 1944 FALL Russian front, Drunken crew under a tree with nothing else to do but paint their King Tiger and try to survive another battle.

Seriously this scheme may be possible and will be much better after the Matt Varnish, and some detailing.

cheers,Saxondog
