Replacement motors

Post by emmasdad »

Guys, I have a set of Waltersons gear boxes fitted to HL tiger, running on a Clark TK 20 board. My question is which replacement (one blown) motors can I fit to these gear boxes. Preferably high torque as she is upgraded with metal stuff and is quite heavy.

Thanks Gary
Take care...... Gary

Hi Gary.

I presume the Waltersons gearbox motors are the same as the Mato ones. So you should be able to swap with any speed 400 motor rated for 7.2v and has 2.3mm shaft diameter. You could go for speed 480 motors for extra power but not many of these have the 2.3mm diameter shaft plus be careful about the specified running current so not to fry your ESC. I use 480 rated at 5A with out issues.

I would also suggest getting a pair as if you get one to replace the damaged motor you probably find it run at a different speed. I would also recommend running the motors in before installation in the tank. If there is no instructions with the motor I connect both motors (not in gearboxes) in series directly to a tank battery (so each motor gets 3.6v) then after 10 minutes change polarity (so motors go other way) and keep doing this for about 1-2 hours.

Definately replace them as a pair, a good choice would be the Graupner Speed 400's 7.2v, lots of people stick these in Heng Long tanks.

I second that the Graupner motors are great, even the 6v version works great very very fast worked great in my 6kg Tiger.

Thanks guys for the replies, sorry for the late reply I've been away from home.

Searched tonight, however nobody seems to have them in stock in the UK. I did find these though......... Mega Mig 400 7.2v......... the specs look similar. Happy days.
Take care...... Gary

I never come across that motor so can't comment. But generally any branded motor will be an improvement.
