Hi all,
I'm Fu from Devon uk, firstly great forums people, as for me, I have had many happy years modeling/Rc but i gave up about 10 years ago. I have always had a thing for tanks and until recently never considered puchasing except the Tamiya Tiger about 10 years ago but £700 if i remember is what killed the idea, so here we are again 10 years on, except this time, the two recently completed 1/35th models and 20 hours a week on WOT xbox beta isn't helping with the thirst.

Hallo Fu, Welcome to the Forum, if you like modifying Tanks then I would recommend Heng Long, Taigen or Torro all are a great deal cheaper than Tamiya and while they are in no way perfect you do at least now have the right silhuette (that was not always the case) if you are in to fighting your Tank then you will need a Tamiya common I/R system, but this Forum will answer those questions and any others you care to ask. If you do decide to upgrade your Tank do go to the recommended dealers site and avoid at all costs the blacklisted dealers, you have questions we have answers, enjoy this place we do. shaun

Thank you for the friendly welcome Folks,
I have been looking with the idea to purchase Heng Long tiger at the end of the month, but would like some advice,
My idea, purchase a pro HL tiger, as I understand with the basic metal parts, (tracks and drive wheels) over the basic kit makes sense.
Does the HL tiger use the same lower chassis as the HL king Tiger?
I like the idea of using the Tiger for BB target practice at home, but also like the idea of IR battles, so do I need Two tanks or can I exchange the turret or the upper hull and turret, how time consuming is this?
What is the most commonly used IR battle system, or should I say popular or most reliable?
As I like the idea of doing both IR and BB, am I missing anything by buying a BB ready and sorting the IR later especially if the better IR systems are after market?

slow down old boy,check out wdm or forgebear ,if you have the pennies old chap I am sure they will be able to meet yor needs in one foul swoop so to speak forgebear has a tiger [hl] plus the bits to make it what you ask, as may steve at wdm check them out old chap wot wot .....

Hallo FU, As Canned Heat says slow down, give us a chance, First most of the answers to your questions can be found on the general questions page, a tip if you want a wider response thats the page to ask questions simply because more people go there than to this page , further to Canned Heats answer there is also on E-BAY HOBBY-POWER they also have a shop in Oxfordshire trading under the name of HOWES and have their own website, they sell most of the Heng Long range and are cheap and trustworthy but Steve at WELSH DRAGON MODELS and Dave at FORGEBEARS are the people who we talk to and trust, you would not go far wrong checking these two heroes out, you cannot change turrets between I/R and B/B without an awful lot of aggravation and I would not advise you try, the King Tiger and the Tiger 1 hulls are quite different, as you see this hobby is like a spiders web, now Recommended Dealers are where we all shop you will find the listing if you scroll down the page you will also find the Blacklisted dealers site, read it, you will see some names you recognise give them a wide berth, too many of us have found out the hard way why not to deal with them.. enjoy the search for your new Tank and shop around, there is a wide range to choose from. shaun

Before you even go near modifying a tank, visit your local tailors and ask for a modification to your trousers, just tell them you have got into RC Tanks and they will immediately know that you require the 'deep pockets' upgrade.

You need to decide whether you are going to get into one of the following branches of the hobby:

1. Airsoft with family and friends.
2. Heng Long IR standard with family and friends.
3. International Standard IR with anyone on the planet.

Option 1 - Buy HL and run it straight out of the box.
Option 2 - Buy HL and run it straight out of the box.
Option 3 - Buy a non-running HL tank off Ebay, or from a car boot sale, pull out the original drive board, plug in a Clark or IBU2 board, and you will have realistic sounds, a lot of fancy extra functionality, and a tank that can battle against anything with a system that meets the standard.

You could easily get a tank up and running in Option 3 for around the £100 mark if you can pick up a cheap HL to start with.
Forget the metal tracks if you are running on grass, they can be a complete hindrance, depends on the tank, and they aren't cheap after you add sprockets and idlers. If you are starting out in the hobby you can always add bits like that later if you really want to.

I know plenty of people who just enjoy running tanks without any battle system at all, so it depends on your wish list really?
