Torro Tiger 1 or HL King Tiger

Post by FV4201 »

Hello one and all, sorry that I have been away for so long but back and here to stay! :D

Well my poor old Heng Long Pershing is still acting up if you use it on anything but tarmac or very dry mud. I will endeavour to have it running one day and capable of tackling grass snow and wet mud!

So basically I have taken the decision to get a new tank start fresh and get myself back into the hobby.

Well I have looked on Tankzone (where I got the Pershing from) and spotted the above 2 tanks

Torro 1:16 Tiger 1 in Desert yellow this is the full option metal one with the wooden case and nasty price tag

and

Heng Long (I believe) 1:16 Porsche turret King Tiger with metal gearboxes and tracks and a not so nasty price tag.

Now I read the thread in the Vendors blacklist about Tankzone so would welcome somewhere I could buy a fully ready to go tank with metal tracks and gearbox and who can do pretty sharp delivery as I will be ordering at the end of the month and it would be fantastic to have it during my week off so I can enjoy a Tank Week :P

Which of the 2 would be recommended by the users on here I am leaning towards the King Tiger as it is cheaper and I would like to eventually finish it as Bovingtons example but I am open to the wealth of experience on this forum.

All the best - Christopher

Welcome back, I have recently returned myself. I have a Torro King Tiger Metal Edition, and did post what I beleive to be an objective look at the tank when new.

Also yesterday I posted some new pictures of the paintwork, that all being said my Tiger after three years and a metal tank for the most part is the best off road/on road tank I own.

The Torro metal edition is very close and should serve you well. But the entire range from Torro and many of the Heng Long tanks have come a long way in quality and service life.

Metal lower hulls are the best solution to most running problems we once experienced, and with new controllers and drive the upper hulls seem to play little part in the way the tank perform,

All the best,my two cents.
cheers Blake

Hallo Christopher welcome back, I bought a Torro Tiger 1 from Tankzone last year, I have been a supporter of them for some time but whilst the Tank is fine i have on going financial issues with them and will not be standing up for them any time soon. The Tiger is GReeaatte, well equipped and rugged it is also much closer in profile to the real thing, If you do decide to upgrade it, Heng Long parts fit just fine, just one thing, it does not carry an external aerial because of course it is 2.4 GHz and does not need it, both Schumo and Aber make replacements and it improves the look but if you are taking to war you may be better off without. the quick release is great but the air filter pipes which are held down by two plastic clips are a pain as they have to be removed each time you open up the tank, I bought new metal clips from WDM and I smear the end of the pipes with vaseline it make access much easier, would I buy another ? YES but not from Tankzone, the box is very handy to transport the tank or to store it out of harms way. enjoy choosing, whichever one you buy I think you will be happy. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

@ Saxondog I have just read the thread with your King Tiger in it, you have done a cracking job of it :) its great to hear that you Torro tank is for the most part the best tank you own, this gives me confidence in spending the amount of money on it . Perhaps a metal hull would be the way forward to get the Pershing back in action again. I would certainly look at one for the Porsche King Tiger just to give it that bit more strength if nothing else.

@ jarndice You have certainly sold me on the Tiger 1 building on what Blake said about his KT. It says that it is finished in desert yellow which would be wonderful even if not 100% accurate for me to put 131 on the turret this is the link http://www.tankzone.co.uk/cart/henglong.htm 3rd row down 2nd from left. Where would you look at getting one from? I have trawled the web and looked through the recommended vendors on here but am struggling to find anyone in the UK at least who sell this tank?

Thank you for your help so far :)

hi guys

i'm a happy owner of a KöTi torro metal edition too, i've yet to start all the external works on it.

but i have to say one important thing to Christopher (and all): be warned that this cat has a big weight (>8kg), and if you run it careless in rough terrain, it could suffer from roadwheels and suspensions problems, his mass aid to this issues.

this is not my case (at this moment, and i hope never to be). But in a spanish forum i'm member of, recently it has been and angry discussion regarding the 'value' of this model. Is the first time i've read any negative comments about it in all the forums that i follow (spanish, british, germans, australians and USA), and these negative come from two guys that do not had this care, then blame the cat... i hope you get my point.

best regards

EDIT: BTW, i bought mine from rctank.de, Dominique is a very helpful guy.

Would careless running in rough terrain be things like going too fast?

I will check out rctank.de now :) thank you for the information

hehehe

not only too fast, but any little bump on the tank's way, not noticed to your eye a few meters away could be a big "bump" for the KT, or running over little rocks and wood, when the tank 'falls' over the other side, it has to be done SLOOOOOWLY, or then... another 'bump', and there is the aeronautical term "material's fatigue' ... >8kg falling down 3cm would be a lot of stress for the wheel arms and suspensions...

think in 'scale': would you left a 68 metric tons beast fall >50cm against a rock solid terrain? or would you run it at full speed against a 50cm rock in the middle of your path? ;D

best regards

Ah right I understand you, I always try to operate my vehicles carefully at a scale speed and going over scale terrain for example I don't drive over wood, little twigs mainly :) I really appreciate the tip though. We must after all do our best to keep the vehicles in good condition :)

Sorry to double post :{ but does anyone know if this King Tiger http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/taigen-hand-p ... -4ghz.html

is to the same standard minus IR as this Tiger 1 http://www.tankzone.co.uk/cart/torro_t1_inf.htm

and in turn is this just the same Tiger 1? http://www.nitrotek.co.uk/taigen-hand-p ... -4ghz.html

I realise that the Company names are different but I understand that Torro is part of Heng Long?

Christopher you are going to hate me for this but Nitroteks reputation is worse than Tankzone, there have been some nasty stories about them which you can read on the black listed vendors site, I am sorry, if you do go that way please be careful. whether Torro and Heng Long are related I do not know, what I do know is that Torro is a far better quality Tank in both build and specification. shaun
