My HL KV-1 - The Destroyer

Post by B.A.D.A.S.S.Force »

Along with a Panther G, I picked up a Heng Long KV-1 last fall, & have gone through a bunch of internal & external mods to it over the last few months.

This is basically the first model (RC or static) I've ever modified, painted, weathered & damaged, so it has been a great new learning experience for me. :thumbup:

I might do a couple more small mods here & there to it, maybe a few aesthetic tweaks, but more or less I'm about done, so I figure I'll show off some pictures of where I was originally, & where I'm at with it now.

Though I did this tank without a real WWII tank to follow accurately & depict, I still decided to place a tactical insignia on the turret, supposedly used by the Russian 124th Tank Brigade, to give it at least a hint of an "authentic" feel or look. I also decided to give the tank a Russian name or saying on the side, which translates to, "The Destroyer", because I thought it would sound befitting of such a beast of a tank as well ! @)

Thanks for the compliments guys, I know it probably needs a bit more weathering & a slightly more used look to give it the full effect, like some scratches, a little rust here & there, some wear marks in the high traffic areas, & a bunch of paint chips, etc., but for my very first go at something like this, I found I'm being a little apprehensive in starting those extra additions for fear I won't do a well enough job & it will make the tank look worse, instead of better. :{

It's a little daunting at first doing any of this, knowing how far to go & where to stop, & when you get to one point & think to yourself, hey it looks pretty good already, it then makes it difficult to then go a bit further, especially since I am currently lacking in the skill & experience to accomplish what I see on other tanks, but would like to do on my own tanks. :think:

I think I need a little practice doing some of those effects on a couple of my 1/24 VSTanks I have just sitting around before I am comfortable enough ... which I should have thought about before working on my KV-1 in the first place. :eh:

So if I can get them to look OK on those tanks, maybe I'll go back & add more of these effects to my KV-1 too. I appreciate the comments & suggestions, thanks!
