Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
Of course not tanker........ All my tanks are Taigens and I hated the fan so it is like killing two birds with one stone for me. Here in Toronto it would be like killing two seagulls with one stone.

Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
hi strmnd54 i read on one of your posts somewhere you use a 50/50 mix of vegatable glycerin & disstiled water is that right ? & iff so how mutch smoke do you get or is that what you are useing in the vid on here ? & would it be better than the heng long stuff ? tanker 242,ps have you read my post asking which is the best smoker mixture ,
Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
Most of the smoke fluid out there will give you a decent amount of smoke...
I choose baby oil for the boosted H.L. smoker because it's made of liquid paraffin; and it does lubricate the rubber tip of the piston better than the other type of fluids I've tried...
It's also inexpensive and available everywhere....

thanks strmnd54 am trying the jonsons baby oil but dont see a lot of smoke so am going to add the fan to boost the air flow into the smoke chamber , tanker 242,
Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
The 2 smoke units that you see at the beginning of this thread were running with baby oil...
The only difference was, that one was equipped with a fan mounted on the top of the cylinder....

strmnd54, baby oil striaght out of the bottle, right ? Not need to mix it with anything else ?
Also, for the fan mod, does it matter which way the air flows ? I just hook up red to red, black to black but I am wondering if it matters.

Hi MichaelC- yes it does matter which way the fan turns, if you hook it up backwards its sucking the air out not pushing air in - if that happens just turn the fan over - same difference as swapping the cables over

Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
just looked at the smoker units in my tiger, panzer 1v, & kv1,& they all seam to be the proportional type with none proportional boards ,ie they have the screws to open them but not the proportional boards like in strmn54s photos on page 1 ,so can i fit the fan or will i need to get proportional smoker units. can anyone help ,tanker 242.

Hi tanker
Yes you can still fit the fans it just means your smoker runs at the same speed all the time and the fan will boost the smoke output, but not vary it like the proportional boards do.

Re: Boosting a H.L. smoke unit
Mine are all non-propotional so I just solder them to the leads coming in from the RX-18/Taigen and it seems to work. However, I can't tell if the airflow is the right direction or not. I thought I can just switch the connection to see if one way produces more smoke or not, but it appears that the connection only works one way for the fan.
I am using the MFU from the Taigen units, and the same direction (i.e. orientation), so the question I have would be whether this is the right orientation for the fan unit as well or should I flip it. If I look at the original picture, my fan looks exactly the same as the one in the thread, and the close part (i.e. The side with the fix grid, vs the side with the open fan blades) is downward towards the smoker. I don't feel any air being pushed out when it is on so I think I have it install on right but if anyone can confirm that would be great.
