New from Seattle

Post by evanthx »

I'd seen NORDPAC at the Museum of Flight here in Seattle and thought their tanks were pretty awesome, and then saw a Taigen M41 Bulldog for sale so I got it. My son and I were out at a park driving it around and firing it and we are both having a BLAST - he's 7, and I suspect I'm going to have to get another tank for myself if I ever want to drive it around! But hey, then we can fight. Woo!

I'm brand new to this, so I'm looking at all the different models and variations - if I get another one I suspect I'll get a kit and build a higher end one just as that can be fun, but I'm not sure. At the moment I'm not at all sure what's out there or what the differences are, so if anyone has any handy web links I'd appreciate it and I'll be reading a lot more of this forum. And if anyone is near Gasworks Park in Seattle and wants to have a little tank battle we'd LOVE it!

Welcome to the forum evanthx,

For the RC tanks, you pretty much only have the Heng Long, a decent Ready to Run (RTR) tank but great if you are into modifying. You got the Taigen brand already, I've heard mixed reviews on that brand. If you want something to build, that is durable, detailed and a great runner, then I suggest the Tamiya RC Tank. More expensive but fun to build and next to no issues. Lots of different tanks to choose from, the Tigers are about the cheapest and the Leo 2A6/JS-2 are the most expensive. Also, there is Trumpter, Waltersons and WSN. With this hobby, it is all about the size of your wallet and a supportive wife :haha:

Hope this helps...

Derek - that is actually EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear. Well, not the expensive part, but hey. :-) Mostly I greatly appreciate the pointer to the Taimya tanks.

As far as the Taigen tank - I've only had it for a few days but as a toy to take out of the box and play with? It's AWESOME. Runs great, sounds great, etc. I'm not going to compare it to anything as I have no idea, but it's been a blast. But I like building things so a kit sounds fun - and having two tanks means my son and I can battle!

hi evanthx & welcome to the forum.
my recommendation would be to go down the heng long road. if you like to tinker.
you can get six henglongs for a tamiya.
they are cheap & cheerfull with plenty of different models to choose from.
most of them have lots of upgrade options available.
if you have a look on this forum, you can marvel at some of the wonderful creations people have done.
the trick is to know what you want..........
better running? or shelf queen?
the possabilities are almost endless!
so get atleast two more, so you have two to play with whilst you have one to tinker with
have fun
cheers
