Can anyone recommend a good airbrush compressor?

I am about to take delivery of a Testors Aztec airbrush - it's a birthday present for moi...

Thought I would take advantage of the 25% of deal at Modelzone in Holborn London (it's going on until 20 March - sadly they are having to move after around 15 years in the same spot).

Anyway, I'm looking for a recommendation on a suitable compressor.

There seem to be two main types - single and dual tank. Some people say that you need the latter to avoid 'pulsing', but most of my spraying is going to be short pass stuff. I will be using it in my kitchen so noise is also an issue. And it can't be too big otherwise my wife will be adding to an already long list of complaints about me and the boys 'taking over the house'.

I'm hoping to spend no more than £60 but may go higher if I need to.

This has been discussed in the past but not recently, so I guess I would rather have recommendations for new(ish) models...

I knew I had an airbrush but I had no idea where it was until last week, being under orders to sort out the garage I found it. It is brand new in a smart box complete with spare washers and springs, An Aerograph Sprite Major which according to google makes it venerable! but it is complete accept for a compressor so I too am now in the market for one. shaun

I have a small mini piston airbrush compressor without a tank but it has a large capacity filter bowl on the pressure regulator which seems to work as a mini tank so it sprays consistently even if the motor is cycling to keep the pressure up, the main thing is it is very quiet just a loud hum which does not disturb the rest of the household if I use it in the evening unlike the dremel which gets complaints if I use that.
My compressor was about £40 brand new and guaranteed off ebay - prices do vary a lot for the same thing as some one else was selling the same model at £79.99 when I was looking for mine and second hand ones were going for prices approaching what I paid for mine.

hi guys i got my airbrush and compressor ,from everythingairbrush.com, in poole dorset, found the prices ok and service good, i had a problem with a new airbrush i got off them they sent me a new one next day, so their worth a good look guys,

Try Amazon, they have a few good deals at the mo. There's tankless ones via airbrush online for £ 49, delivery a tad more which is pretty good ( pay £60 and you get a couple of spare Air brushes!). The tank reservoir versions seem to run for about £80 on there. I have the tankless version, its not really noisy and has sprayed all my 1/16th stuff without problem.

I puchased a 7 gallon compressor at my local hardware store and just fitted an adapter to drop the hose size after the dessicant filter and pressure gauge. Cost me $175 but my air is super dry and I have tons of pressure and CFM so I can tweak that to improve my paint jobs. Regardless of what you buy I do recommend using a tank because it will make a huge difference in a quality paint job.

As FD says, a reservoir, tank,is the way to go.

I have a Badger AB (which is pretty ancient). Compressor is a Bostitch coupled to a depleted old CO2 mini cylinder which works ok. :

I have the same one, never had any problems with it and does a good job for a reasonable price
Having one with a tank is a must for a constant flow at a regulated pressure.
