Chunwai challenger 2 update.

Post by Sydney »

Little bit of an update; so far i have managed to strip most of the turret, hull and other parts for a repaint,it was not that difficult as hex nuts are used throughout. The paint i am using is Rust-Oleum
painters touch hunt club green, it drys to a matt finish and is the nearest i could find that matches all
the pics i have looked at of a Challenger 2 .The periscopes were a challenge and i had three attempts at this, bu finally used Testors Green M.F, and it worked really well, so this whole repaint process is an on going slow job, dont mind though( after all i am retired).

Having a few issues with the Futaba 6EX-2.4Ghz TX,the charger for the battery that came with it is rated
at 220 volt, so i tried a Venom 9.7 volt 300ma charger, but it appears that the supplied battery
does not hold a charge for very long at all, so i have had to send for a new charger and battery from Futaba, ( I think i might have f****d up the battery myself). The Futaba TX is proving to a bit of a challenge, and quite the learning curve for me, what with getting used to setting dual rates, exponentials,
end point ,trims etc,the manual is specifically written for aircraft and helicopters, but I am getting there
slowly and the tank functions are starting to match up with the TX functions.
Well thats all i have for now.

PS; A member answered my question about tow lines and related he is an ex gunner(Royal Artillery)
What regiment were you with?, I was in 50th Missile Regt RA, on Honest John tac nuke, and
re-eqipped with Lance guided tac nuke.

Hi Sydney,

I am considering purchasing a Chunwai Challenger 2, but I'm gathering as much information as possible before I decide take the plunge. Your updates continue to help me. When I decide to place a order, I would not have them paint the vehicle. Since you seem to not be happy with Chunwai's paint quality. I think the paint quality we are offered in the United States and Canada are of a higher quality and have more choices? Do you agree? From reading your updates that's what I am gathering.
Please keep the updates coming.

I agree, the paint job from Chunwai was pretty bad(I should have just had it delivered with no paint).
However, after much sanding, grinding, and disassembly, my new paint job has turned out a lot better.
I am no expert but I did take my time, and in many instances had to re-sand and repaint.
I got all my paint and colour information by doing a lot of research on the internet, and of course
seeing them come in by train to the training area here in Alberta, Canada.
I am sure if you decide to obtain one of these monsters you will be impressed and able to paint it
in a very professional standard to your own taste.
