Hi hotte8487
Thanks for information

In the meantime Ive received information from Thomas /Elmod/ regarding this problem with big turnig radius of heavy RC tanks : the friction of the chain on the floor could be enough to overcome the inhibition of the gearbox. It depends on the floor conditions, weight of the tank, weight of the chains and the ease of motion of the gearbox.

There is a difference in the motor control between the old Tank Module and the ECO/PRO modules. The old Elmod Tank Module actively brakes the chain motors. The current modules just lowers the voltage to zero. Elmod have in plans to correct this problem in ECO/PRO too but in the future....

And its true! - I checked the same with my heavy Panther tank (weight about 7 kg) and with older Think Think Tank Elmod v1.02 - moving tank is turnig very sharp - significant better than with Elmod ECO . However older Elmod is not so strong as ECO/PRO and heavy tank with standard Tamiya gearbox is not moving so smooth (sometimes a little "jerking") - maybe additional gear reduction is needed?

I have just orderd two types of Jamara 480 motors for testing with ECO

Jamara Lipower 480 7.4 Volt
Jamara 480HS/BB Pro 7,2 Volt

we will see - are they stronger than black long can M02 ETO motors or not?

Hi wsn123,

thanks for this information. Let me know whether you have success with the stronger motors. Another possibility would be to use Tamiya reduction gears, but the cost here in Germany from 60 €...

Ok Thanks

Do You mean Schumo ZUH19 gear down reduction kit ?
But those are probably for Tamiya Tiger or KT only, and they dont fit Tamiya Panther?
Or any other are available too?

Yes wsn123, I mean exactly this part from Schumo-Kits. Basically you have right, the reduction gears are only for Tiger I, Tiger II, Gepard and Leopard I.
But I think that it could nevertheless go, basically the reduction gears fits also to the Panther gears, but it could give problems with the width and the height. You do need the dimensions of the reduction gears, because there is a little space to the inner side and to the top side.

hotte8487, Thanks a lot for reply

As I said I tested both motors with Tamiya Panther gearboxes and Elmod ECO Electronics
Jamara Lipower 480 7.4 Volt
Jamara 480HS/BB Pro 7,2 Volt

Jamara Lipower 480 seems excately the same type of motor like ETO black long can 480 type - so the tank behaviour was the same as previously

Jamara 480HS are stronger , tank was moving better but it wasn't enough to reduce significantly the tank turning radius.

In the end I solved the problem in my heavy Panther tank using Mitosal/Impact TU with DDG and with black 480 ETO motors. Now Tank is turning v sharply. Mitosal/Impact TU are made full of metal (steel) and have removable Drop Down Gear - DDG

Standard Tamiya gearboxes have gear ratio= 59,77
Mitosal/Impact gearboxes with DDG have gear ratio=105,47

Using DDG gives two advantages
-tank is moving slower and more realstic than with standard Tamiya TU
-the TU momentum is significantly stronger

Hi wsn123,

many thanks for your reply and your experience with the Mitosal gearboxes. The difference in gear ratio is really very big and so I can imagine the difference well. In the last time was my Panther rare on tour, but I will go out with him, if the weather is a bit better and warmer. And then, before painting, I will decide if I will follow your example. Many thanks again!
By the way, you have a really nice Panther, but my knowledge had german turret numbers not four digits.

Thank You, no problem ,

Yes You are right - there is "toyish" number from HL Panther - I have to find something more accurate ....

Hello at all,

for me has ElMod now solved this problem, try out firmware version 1.11! My very heavy weight Kingtiger (Torro with 8 kg) makes now closely curves on heavy floors like grass and carpet. And this already with adjustment for both tracks: strong compensation. 8)
