Mid Production Tiger 1 questions

Post by Red Devils »

Hey boys,

Got a few question on the tank itself and if they're any spare part manufacturers out there that provide these items.

1. Early Mid Prod Tiger Loader hatch, were the bevelled or the flat metal found on the later produced Mid/Late Tiger 1? Do anyone produce one?

2. As i'm doing a Befhels Tiger 1, I have read and seen pics where the mantlet is the un-armoured one at the gunner sights. The readings state that HQ tanks were the last to recieve the up-armoured mantlets. Is there someone out there who produces such a beast?

3. Finally, does anyone happen to have a decal sheet with the battalion chrest of the 507th schwere Heeres Panzer Abteilung? I would like to get the rough width and length measurements?

Thanks guys...

Hi Derek. I can't answer your questions about the loader's hatch or decals, but the early mantlet (without the reinforcement of the gunner's sight) was available from Tamiya as part of their early DAK kit. I'm not sure if it's still available, but I have an extra one you're welcome to if you want it. PM me if you do. -Mike

Regarding the command tanks, Mg posistion was closed off as an additional radio would have taken up the space that the turret MG would occupy.

Mid production loaders hatch would have been bevelled and would be have been a welded production.

Are you going to fit a pistol port to replace the larger bolted on MG port on the turret side - or are you going to make the turret walll solid ??

Hey Andy,

Thanks for the reply, i'm tracking the MG is closed, I was just looking for the early mantlet. Sassgrunt is hooking me up. Thanks for the info on the loaders hatch. With the portside of the turret, the pics I have show no bolted on pistol port but they are to distant to find the finer details of the pistol plug. The project tank is an early mid production, so do you think I should go with just the solid armoured wall?

By the way, do you happen to know if the HL Tiger 1 loaders hatch is stupidly oversized? I compared it to a Tamiya Early Prod Tiger 1 and the Tamya hatch is considerable smaller.

Thanks again Andy,

Hi Derek ,
I would say the HL hatch is oversize. I used a Hattchette partworks loaders hatch on my late production build ' Tiger Ebbey ' in the Tamiya section. The Hattchette part was to scale with theTamiya one so I would regard the HL part as incorrect - but would you really notice ??

I can send you some diagrams with the changes to the turret patterns and other hull layouts if that would help.....

Hey Andy,

Thanks again for the info, I would notice the hatch. I got the part sprue for the Tamiya tank so I will cut out the HL hatch and graff in the Tamiya one. What diagrams do you have?
