Taigen & HL conversion to IR

1 have 5 HL tanks ( 1 month ago I had 2, so the army grows fast). 1 with Taigen 2,4gHz and 4 with RX18 electronics. 1 off the RX18 are with IR battle system, and I am thinking about converting the rest off them. But will the Taigen battle with the RX18's ?
Another Q . Is the HL battle system any good at all, or schall I save my money?

Yes those tanks do grow quickly don't they!

As far as I know the Taigen will not work with the hen long system.

As for Heng Long system any good? It's alright all tanks have five hit regardless of tank weight there is no reload time and when your tank it shakes violently which I'm sure over time will damage your gear boxes. But all that aside it is great fun fighting a mate with the IR system so I say go for it and have fun.

Thank you Tankbear. I have " gone for it" and bourght 2 extra IR battle "things" to try it out. I suppose the LED on the set is for shooting? Where do i place it?
In the mantlet, or under the cannon? Is it supposed to sit in a sort of pipe, or does it "shoot" straigt forward as is?

Yeah mate normally fitted in the manlet in the location of the red warning led. Heng Long don't bother with the tube so you get a wide beam shot compared to Tamiya etc, but even with this "wide shot" you still need to be aiming at the target to hit it.

If you want to be more skillfull the IR LED needs to be in a 5mm diameter tube long enough so there is 9mm from front /opening to the front of the IR LED. And some people say the tube should be painted inside Matt black.

long time doing nothing. But now im almost finished building hl ir into a Pershing BB tank. I put the led where the warning led for bb sits. Cut of the warning led and now bb dont work. put the black wire on the bb on/off switc and when firing with the stick nothing happened exept RX 18 started smoking. Cut the wire again and tried turning tank on again. Big surprise! everything worked exept the bb gun. I really dont care about the gun working, but will the tank ir fire when pressing the K buttom? ( I may have fried the stick firing funktion.)

found out myselves ( rigged another tank and tried out). It fires on the K buttum, and RX 18 still works dispite the smoke.
I have to try Tankbear idea about a liitle tube in front off the ir LED. As it is now, its like firing a sawn over shotgun x 4. within a 45 degree angle each side off the target, its a hit.

To check if your IR is firing use a digital camera or mobile phone camera and point at the IR and when fires it shows up as a white light.
