heng long shaft support bearings

Post by laters »

I got a set of the heng long support bearings from ebay to use on my asiatam build.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380405360884
They were a little tight on the safts so I decided to sand the shafts down a little to make them fit easier.
I test fitted one of them and it was fine till it accendentally got pushed too far down the shaft when it was sat on the bench :{ (little fingers picking things up and all that).
As I was trying to get the bearing support off the shaft the bearing inside the support dropped in bits. :(

Does anyone know the sizes of the bearings?
I cant find my micrometer at the moment and thought I would ask incase someone knows.

thanks

Measuring the bearing with a ruler it appears to be 13mm in diameter, 8mm bore and 5mm wide.

I am not sure the measurements can be right (they are the correct measurment as near as I can be with a ruler, I guess they are either really obscure or are not metric sized) as I cant find any bearings that size on the net at any sellers Ive found.

If I cant find a bearing the right size I guess its time to get some oilite bushes made roughly the right size. Bit of a bind when the tank hasn't run yet either in its new form

These look like a Tank Modellbau product. If so they will only fit axles up to 7.99mm diameter -

Some Heng long axles have a larger diameter, in which case driveshaft supports with bearings to fit the larger axles aren't available. You could fit supports with bushes instead, these are available in two sizes suitable for axles up to 7.99mm and up to 8.08mm, so the larger size should do the job -

I hope this makes sense!

Thanks Steve,
Ive already stripped one of the gearboxes and have it in the lathe at my mates to make the shaft under 7.99mm (strange size), I will strip the other gearbox later and take that round in the morning.

In the meantime I have ordered another set of the bearings from your site since I was ordering some other bits too.

Glad to hear its happened to someone else too.

I would still like to lnow size of bearing but as I said if need be I will turn them into bushes and keep as spares.

Seems odd that I cant find any bearings in the size it measures.

Both shafts have been done with emery cloth now and the other bearing goes on and off nicely. Wheels fit a lot easier too.

As far as I can remember there are two sizes. One for the heng long and one for asiatam. Rctanks.de does both. Check thr sizes. I used them as my tiger is about 19lbs. Got them sorted eventually.

I have read this post time without end and I just wondered if putting the support bearings in boiling water first to expand them to fit would work? I have no idea of the differance in expansion rates between the bearing and its carrier but if the bearing expands at a lower temperature than the carrier it should solve the problem of oversize axles.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
