Re: It Begins! My M4A1 based Sherman Firefly Build.
Thank you for the compliment! I carried an M21 for the first two years of my service. It's not wise to be down range from me. LOL
Finally, I'm getting close to paint! I'll have that up here soon.

She's coming along nicely, Dan!! Can't wait to see her in the first coat of SCC15. I'm away for a few weeks (work-related) so I'm not always in the position to post.....
Grtz, and keep-up the good work, John.

That is some real super detailing.
Go to be the best Sherman build I've seen yet.
Steve.

I appreciate the compliments. I have taken much longer than I should have. However, often it's just a matter of figuring out how to go about something. This is my first major scracth build. Perhaps, the good news is that I am finally getting close to completion. The next build is pretty much out of the box, other than the addition of Zimmerit and a few small details. Anyway, it's nice to finally see a few comments.

I am finally painting the beast. I have done portions of the SCC 15, I will show that in complete componets. I finished the M2 .50 Browning machine gun and weathered it. I used the old tried and true panel fading for the Olive parts, flat black dry brushed with metalizer aluminum and a transparent blue wash.. I went a step further and painted the tips on the rounds to indicate tracer and armor piercing. Red/Black tipped.

Thanks for the teaser Dan,
What I can see from the MG cradle, the SCC 15 is spot on! Are you satisfied with the blue filter on the .50cal? it looks great....just a hue of blue.
Keep up the great work, will follow closely, John.

John:
The blue filter does look good over the base black. I should have dry brushed the flat aluminum with the Metalizer product instead of Tamiya. The pigment is much more fine in the metalizer product, however I was out. I wound up using Tamiya Clear Blue for the wash. I actually went back with a flat black drybrush to tone it down a bit. Thanks!

Dan:
When the paint is completely dried, you can always swab a Q-tip with some graphite powder over the MG; gives a very subtle, metallized shine.....

I have a few metallic rubs, they were primarily for altering the tone of aluminum S&J paint. I broke out the iron to tone it down.

Re: It Begins! My M4A1 based Sherman Firefly Build.
I haven't had the time I'd like to have, but I thought I'd post a teaser. I have completed the paint on the upper and lower hull and bogies. I have final weathering streaking and such to complete once the paint has hardened post the wash.
