thinking about scratch building a 1/6 tiger

as the post says thinking about building one. need to find out how much the tracks and wheel will cost( just about the only bits i can't do myself) thing is i'm going to get all the measurements off my acadmemy 1/35 tiger. what is the ratio for scaling up? i know 1/35 to 1/16 is 216% and i know i'll have to be super accuriate, but i'm used to doing measurments down to 1/2 mil. please excuse the spelling , for some reason my head is having a fit

This is a huge piece of kit and weighs around 19 stone when complete. They also take up a lot of room and if you are going to build one they are also very difficult to manouvere.

I would just times it by 35 & then divide it by 6

Wow, I think working in 1/16 scale is nuts....rather than using a 1/35 scale as a base, it would sugest the wsn tiger....I think its pretty darn close except for the zimmerit( or lack of)...then for scale conversions....take your mesurements in mm x by 16 and /buy 6............

cheers must, was thinking about getting in touch with mark one. going to use ply for most of the build and also try to work out a way of making the barrel removable for transport. going full rc as well. tbh if i can get tracks and wheels the rest of the build should be fairly simple as a tiger is almost all flat planes apart from the rear of the turret. more a case of getting all the maesurements spot on.

Please do not take this the wrong way....I have seen many scratch built tiger 1's and most of them look like junk. You have to get the angles right and as with all models, you have to pull the detail out in greater amounts as the scale get larger or the eye will tell you something is wrong. Here is a example...

don't get me wrong, the guy did some great work but his lack of detail and getting some of the scale wrong just kills the projects imo. I know I couldn't build those as well as he did but the eye does not lie. I am not tying to tell you not to do the project, I just want you to be ready for what is needed.
I remember when I made the shift from 1/72 modles to 1/35 scale models...you had to start messing with textures and so many little hooks and stuff that could not be seen on the 1/72 models.....1/16 scale models are even more so.........for 1/6 scale model you are looking at huge hours to get the armor texture right on those big slabs of plywood, then the weld lines and joints....hunges, tie downs, scale hardwear everywhere.....makes my head spin....all I can say is....good luck and I look forward to seeing it.

agian cheers must, i know exactly what you mean. if i cant get agles right, then i'd be out of a job as i'm an instrument pipefitter so everything has to be perfect. lol but if it looks like a peice of junk, it'll be firewood. i'm thinking about a year to build. basic structure fairly simples then the detail stuff will take all the time. if i get it off the ground i think i will be picking a lot of brains. allready got my dad involved lol
