Early tigers carried signal flags - 131 has a bin for them in the turret next to the commander's seat. Perhaps the hole was intended for signal flags rather than sight5ing - and also for getting wet through! Superb model - very jealous.

I really like the great job you have done building 003. I wondered about the hole in the cupola hatch as well. I have finally come to believe that it is the same as for the Panzer II ausf F, and used for the scissors periscope. There is a 1/6th build of a Panzer II that shows it pretty well. Link is here:
On every reference about this tank I have read, they say that the cupola hatch laid flat when open, and did not have a 110 degree hold-open stop like the normal Tiger I has. And, although I have never seen a photo showing the hold-open stop, EVERY photo I have seen that shows the hatch open seems to show it at what looks like 110 degrees. I am guessing that it may not have had it when originally built in 1942, but that it would have been retrofitted (along with the turret side escape hatch) before the vehicle was issued in 1944.
Very well done. You pick the wierdest tanks to build which is a good thing. Now Ill have to search the web for pictures of this tank. although Ill never try to build one.
