periscope optics mods

Post by rogerloosli »

a cheap/free mod for most model tanks ,when you have the top off your model, drop hot glue inside all the holes for the periscopes on hull and inside turret , when dry cut flush with model knife ,if you cut it when the glue is still warm you get a shinny blue Finnish, when its cold its a more frosted Finnish ,both look good, i have done it on my hl king tiger as to buy them was £19! money i don't have.regards roger

I super glue Window Tint ( from car window ) onto a bit of white plastic styrene. Once dry you can cut into to any shape and just glue them in.
when you cut the plastic just cut the plastic side with the tint on it and snap as usual.

Real Periscopes are clear. There is no tint. I own a brand new M6 from a Sherman, and it was used in most US/Lend Lease Armor. I actually used .088 clear sheet plastic, cut and filed to shape. I then used some chrome real metal foil on the angled portion of the rear of the head, masked the slot off in the front and painted it green-black. It picks up ambient light when the hatches are open, which looks much more realistic. When it's closed up it picks up light from the outside, but is a dark reflection.
