Thanks for the feedback and historical info guys. I'll try to get this as close to an early model as far as my limited skills and funds can take me (remember, this is my first...)

@buckeye36: sorry, I misunderstood what you meant by the air intake grates. I definitely won't be making that adjustment to my tank. Well beyond my comfort level....

I'm building a Tamiya as a G1 and was unaware that anyone made the fan castings for earlier models, so thanks to you I have some on the way.
The engine grates aren't as hard as you think, I just used some plastic strips.
Great job on the zim, looks really good.

A good place to put the on of switch after cleaning it up so a battery recharge cable can be attached to it and run up to the large rear loading hatch is in the center if the cable coil holder in the right side of the upper hull. This can be also done with the panther G. Just paint the part of the switch that is exposed like the rest of the tank and its vurtually invisibleif you domt know that its there'

Not really much movement right now, unfortunately real life keeps getting in the way.

I've received the grates from Welshdragon, and the Tamiya sprue with the early exhausts on it. I did think about the other engine covers as you showed in your earlier post, and thought about how I'd do them. I took a stab at creating them out of balsa, had ok results. Might actually try to change the engine grates going that route. We'll see.

I guess I do have a question. The Tamiya exhausts I received do not appear to be hollow to allow smoke through. The bottom where they attach to the rear of the tank are hollow, like the late exhausts, and then there are small holes up to each exhaust stack. However the top of the exhaust stacks are solid.... Because there are small holes in the bottom, leads me to believe they might just be hollow all the way up, and if I drill out the top I'll open it up for smoke, however I'm reluctant to do that if the entire thing is solid. Anyone have any thoughts?

Drill A small access hole in he rear of the tube that faces the back plate, if hollow it's an easy fix if not it is easy to hide.

Your build is very interesting and certainly a fine job. On your weld seams have you considered the half-round plasticard strips,with crosscuts using a hobby knife? This is a flexible method to create weld seams on the rounded area's and the straight weld lines as well?

I used this method on my Jagdpanther,here is a link to that post.Perhaps it will be of some benefit.

Also what smoker are you using? The Super Smokers are avaible. Let me know if you want information about these units. Here is a video of the unit running full speed in my Jagdpanther.

I partially drilled my exhausts and they are solid from the top down to at least to the bend in the pipe, that's where I stopped.

I tend to cheat a little I actually use crepe paper that i cut in strips and glue it to the tank's body.

It works well for zimerit as applied to the Tigers, obviously no good for the type of zimerit applied to the Jagdpanther, which i must say it looks great!

The weld seams are great too!
