Bandai tiger
Bandai tiger
Going to build one of these for my uncle, anyone built one? Just wondering about the electronics, will the heng long kit work or what else would be compatible
Re: Bandai tiger
I had thought that someone would have replied to your posting by now, but since no one has; let me see if I can help.
About 20 years ago, this kit was the only Tiger I larger than 1/24 scale. Then of course, both Tamiya and Heng Long have released working models which made it obsolete. It's the same scale as the 120mm Verlinden resin kits of the Tiger I and Sturmtiger, and I have seen people use this chassis to make those work.
To make this into an operational model, you would have to source everything but the gearboxes; because that's the only thing that comes in the kit. (And I've seen people replace those, too. Someone used to sell adapters to make the Bandai sprockets fit Tamiya gearboxes). The plastic is more 'brittle' than Tamiya, and I have found that you can cause severe cracking damage to the hull if you accidentally run it into a rock, (guess how I know this). The roadwheels are held on by flexible-plastic caps, which don't want to stay in place unless you glue them on.
It does make into an impressive model, though - the hull size is about 21cm by 40cm, where the Tamiya hull is about 19cm by 37cm. I would suggest that you consider buying an already-built RTR Tiger for your uncle to run around the yard, and build this one to sit on a shelf, (where it won't get damaged and will always look as good as when you built it). Paint them both in the same scheme, and no one will know the difference. -Mike
