Post by madmonk25 »

I've seen brass ones/metal ones like i have in mine but its just soft metal are the brass ones the ones to go for ? and who does them for my tank.

Steel 4:1 ratio: http://www.rctank.de/product_info.php?P ... e858d362h0
Steel 3:1 ratio: http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/asia ... 1554-p.asp

Afaik the best gearbox you can buy.. Made of steel instead of (soft) metal..

I dunno what ratio is best tbh.. Maybe others here can tells us a bit more about that.. I would guess the 4:1 ratio gives a more realistic slower ride, but I'm not sure.. I have the 4:1 steel one in my King Tiger..

Yep i have the above set 3:1 in my tiger 1, which weighs about 6.8kg. I have had no problems at all with them :)

If you have a lot of play in the gear box you can shim them with 4mm brass washers to take out the sideways movement, it makes them a lot smoother and quieter, that should do until you decide what to replace them with.
If you look in the download section there is a gear box calculator which should help you work out the ratios.
hope that helps

The taigen tiger has 3:1 ratio gears fitted. Not sure on the material used but they are strong, mine sheered the rear idler clean off when the tracks got jammed up.

Most of the bits taigen use are asiatam parts, the lower hull for example, so I'd image the gearbox is an asiatam part as well. The ones in my taigen tigers are vastly superior to those in my hl king tiger. Let me know how you find the 4:1 ratio box in comparison though.

yes all of the bits are asiatam bits on this tank. but the gears are the soft metal kind. i have been told steel as will last a long time. but did like the idea of the brass ones but not sure how much life you will get out of them. and hopeful they are a lot better then stock gears as there is so much play in them.
