Torro 2.4GHz radio to replace HL RX18

Post by NigelDerEnglander »

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd look around a few sites and found this at Torro's:

http://www.torro-shop.de/product_info.p ... her-T.html

The details are a bit sparse, but it appears to be a complete replacement for the standard HL Tx and the HL Rx and Rx18 controller. BB gun and IR battling capable (presumably HL IR, not Tamiya?)

It claims the sounds are better - but then it is using a better speaker and more power to begin with. There is no mention of the smoker or gun/cannon/recoil etc. The datasheet (Datenblatt) they have there to print is just the same (less actually) as appears on the web page.

Better drive qualities, range etc, and multiple users as with any 2.4Gig system. built in fan for cooling.

Interesting.

PS Just had a look at Asiatam. They describe it even less (though here branded as Taigen) and want EUR95 for it:

http://www.asiatam.com/taigen-elektroni ... -1019.html

PPS Torro postage to UK is ~EUR19. This takes it to about EUR 110 all-in which is a good £90 even with the current improved exchange rate. Asiatam don't/won't calculate postage till you've put it in your basket. It's tempting to get one, but I'd like to see a better description in German/English first. And by then perhaps forgebear/WelshDragon/PanzerCommand etc will have them in UKstock? Guys?

It appears to be a direct replacement for the RX18 unit so the existing bb gun / smoker etc just plug in as before.
Translation by google below:-

2.4 GHz and driving control unit set for R / C Tank
This is a brand new tank module for the discerning modeller assumes all control functions
of your tank model. It can be installed in such Torro, Matorro, Heng Long and models from other manufacturers.

The easiest way is to change the speed control when previously an RX-18 board was installed, because the connectors easily
be repositioned. Universal usable for tanks with IR battle system or BB shot function.
Of course, you can set and use for your homemade. With this brand new Torro 2.4 GHz system to increase the reach, functionality and handling characteristics, and sound of their armored model to a considerable extent. By automatically frequency hopping, multiple models can be operated simultaneously.

Welsh Dragon Models will be stocking the new Taigen 2.4GHz digital system -

http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/taig ... 1778-p.asp

This technology is already in general use in other R/C hobbies and allows for use of multiple frequencies without the need for crystals :)
We will update our website with more information as soon as we have it.

Their was some indication from our source at Heng Long that a 2.4 Ghz system was in the works, hopefully this is the beginning of true RC Control and reliability.

I am just thinking as a consumer here and at over $100 Cdn this seems to be a bit high cost.
I hope someone gets one and reviews it for us. :eh:

My supplier also says it is from Taigen, but Torro also sells it under their name.. It looks very interesting and a wellcome upgrade for HL tanks.. They say it offers more speedsteps then the RX18 which should improve the ride, better sound and integrated 2.4Ghz receiver.. I presume we'll see tanks coming on the market soon that will have this new electronics installed..

To bad it most likely is not compatible with the USM-HL soundmodule from Beier I have installed in my metal Torro King Tiger.. I would definatly have replaced the RX18 in it for this new electronics if that was the case.. As it would get rid of the crappy 27Mhz remote and create more space in the tank aswell as no seperate receiverboard is needed anymore, a win win situation.. Price is also good if you ask me, less then a 100 euro's for better electronics, better sound and much better remote..

The new sound will stil not be as good as with Beier or Elmod for sure.. The speaker of 3W instead of 0.5W is nice but also not as good as i.e. a Visaton of at least 10W, and we do not know if the sampled sounds are the same or also improved.. So it's not really the sound upgrade I'm interested in.. The more speedsteps for better ride and 2.4Ghz remote are what this upgrade it all about for me.. For people that run stock S&S HL tanks this would be a very good and affordable upgrade I think..

Lets hope we'll see reviews soon, and hope all stock HL tanks will be sold with this soon aswell.. Bye bye 27Mhz..

Welshdragon Steve:

Can you tell us:

1. Is the smoker supported?
2. Is the on/off on separate buttons as per current HL, or some stick combination as per some other systems (Tamiya etc)?
3. Cannon sound/hull recoil? (Hopefully no recoil!!)
4. Machine gun sound?
5. BB recoil switch?
6. Non-BB cannon recoil
7. Front/rear lights?
8. Other features?
9. And the important one. Expected UK cost?

TIA

If you look at the smaller pictures of the layout of the board and remote a lot of your questions will be answered already, see here: http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/taig ... 1778-p.asp

To me it looks the same as the RX18 board, only difference is the integrated 2.4Ghz receiver..
