HL Panzer.....Begins.(With problems!)

OK so I recieved my tank the other day but due to the weather and my teeny tiny flat(if it had a full length barrel It would not spin)and a nervous cat I have not properly run it,tho I did suspect problems.

Anyhow,the workshop was closed this afternoon (my work place) so I tried it there.The results are...............

Turret rotates.Muzzle raises and lowers,BB's fire.

Tank moves forward in straight line but appears to be the same speed regardless of stick position.
Tank turns left forwards.
Tank turns Right Forwards.
Tank will not Left spin.
Tank will not right spin.
Tank moves backwards in straight line but appears to be the same speed regardless of stick position.
Tank will not turn left backwards.
Tank will not turn right backwards.

Demo 1,2,3 and 4 work BUT appear to be all the same.

Initially Both headlights flashed as tank moved now only one stays on permanently whilst in motion.

Tank will turn and spin in all directions when in demo mode.

Is this just typical of the HL build quality I have heard about?
I did slip up a bit when buying it,it was supposed to be pro version which I assumed would be sound and smoke and it had added metal wheels,tracks and suspension arms.So to get sound and smoke I have ordered the parts to convert.I think it is a Tx/Rx problem,which when I get the SS conv will be replaced,so.............should I just get a replacement from the dealer OR negotiate,or tryt to,a discount for a faulty unit?What sort of price would a faulty non S&S go for with the metal parts?

hello mate ,right new to these demo tanks but is their a switch to turn off demo either in turret hatch or underside of hull and when you try to turn b/wards do you push and pull sticks if all else fails take out crystals and put back in so you feel the pins going into holes , as for lights mine lasted 10 mins on my panzer but that was because the vibration from the tracks broke the solder if your not happy with it send it back contact seller and tell them the faults and you have tryed this advice , one last thing are the batteries fully charged hope this can help you fella

Hi Ruben.
The demomode is a switch on the TX (three buttons where the S&S buttons are I think)one has to press the demo button and move the RH stick to one of 6 positions.
Not tried removing and reinserting crystal but did try all three channels,A,B,C.

Have contacted the vendor so I will see what they say.I suppose it would suit me better to have some money back seing as I was intending to change to SS and have bought the parts!

hello mate these demos sound a bit strange to me as if they are built into the controller what sort of movement can you do then ? sounds like usual hl build control i would ask for a full refund and then shop around take a look at many sellers see whats on offer, i have brought some good s/hand tanks on e/bay all heng long theres no shortage of them . there is a hl tiger on e/bay s&s metal tracks gearboxes i think its only up to £50.00 at the mo but if you need any help just ask and i will try to help best i can. can you put up a pic of tank and controller mate if you can

Yeah they are in the controller.It is also possible to program in a set of moves and then have the tank follow them!

Seller has just got back to me saying a battery problem,which I doubt,but I will charge it and film it I think!

If your tank has the demo modes it is the old non smoke and sound version of the tank, take it it came in a black box and not white?

So you only get one speed forward and backwards and it turns slowly on the spot, no super spin. And if I remember the headlight only comes on when travelling forward.

So what you descibe sounds like it is working correctly.

You could upgrade the electronics to RX18, but you'll also need a receiver board, crystals and a S&S controller. But an easier option might be to buy a faulty S&S tank off ebay and transfer all the parts over, as the electronics are same regardless of the tank model.

The instructions say it has spin and that it has two forward and reverse speeds.
The demo modes also say left turn and spin and right turn and spin!
Even if it does not spin and it has once or twice done a spin it should be able to turn in reverse I would have thought!

Agree it should turn in reverse. But mine never did a super spin under normal control, might of done under a demo mode but can't remember as was a year ago now. Since ripped out the board and installed a RX18 so can't check either.

when you order tanks direct from Heng Long you basicly get to choose a spec for them and allot of the ones that came in about a year ago (and are still being sold) are Non smoke and sound versions with metal tracks, gearbox's, and sprockets but they run on the old bourds meaning single speed and limited functions,
some vendors have been selling them as pro versions just because they have the metal parts fitted which they should'nt do.

I would personaly complain like mad that it is'nt a Pro version as Pro versions "usualy" come with smoke and sound and ask for a parcial refund.

Allot of the advertised functions on Heng Long Non S&S tanks are pure fiction such as the "Music" I have never had a tank which plays any type of tune and if it has no sound how can it ?, twin speed fast and stop seems to be that one. and the list goes on.

Best thing to do is go through ebay and find a tiger 1 smoke and sound tank that is listed as faulty (currantly the cheapest faulty tanks on ebay as they are the longest produced and everyone has 2-3 of them)
then remove the electrinics and put them in your tank,
the motors unscrew from the gearbox's and everything else screws in exept the smoke on/off switch as non s&s tanks usualy dont have the mounts for the screws (double sided foam tape or hot glue gun solves this)
that way the only soldering should be the main on/off switch plug for Battery to the RX18 bourd.

The smoke unit if you gentley grip the 90 deg bends that exit the unit with pliers and turn them gentley they will usualy come off and can be glued on again at the correct angles

on the non S&S tanks the demo mode is on the transmitter buttons 1) is confirm (2) is program & 3) is Demo mode, the power light in the Transmitter changes colour depending on which mode you are in.

when you buy a faulty tank for spares make sure it says or ask if it has the RX18 unit in it.

Pleanty of folks on here that will help you and loads of good sellers in the recomended vendors list inc, me, forgebear, welsh dragon, panzer command, blue statesman etc

and remember to check the vendors blacklist too so you know the ones to avoid at all cost

most good vendors will give free advice and although quite often busy will get back to you asap

Yes I think as a "virgin" I have come a little unstuck with my purchase.I have today contacted the seller and asked for the returns procedure and a full refund not an exchange.

It is ashame that I didn't discover this site untill I had made my purchase.Maybe a kit buying guide is needed?

As I say I have started the returns procedure and I shall be wanting a full refund,keep it civil for a start but if things don't go as they should I will get heavier!

Well I have ordered some items from Tankzone,also read he is in the black list,BUT I have to say when I rang him the call got cut off and he contacted me back.Also he emailed me regards my order so maybe he has improved some.I've looked at welsh dragon,and he would be great for me but most items seem out of stock and he has no tanks(HL) on his web site,I cannot log in as a customer and the links on his site don't work!

most good vendors will give free advice and although quite often busy will get back to you asap
