New tank but which one?

Post by tanked up »

Hi chaps im kind of new to rc tanks, i want to buy a new tank but im not sure which one to go for, i want 1/16 scale as i already have a heng long tiger 1 and a walker bulldog both of these have plastic gears and tracks and i want more reliability and weight, i have thought about upgrading these two but the tiger has a real nice paint job and weathering and i wanted to keep this the way it is and there just is not much in the way of upgrades for the bulldog tank i dont think, i have thought about a taigen panther as it comes with metal parts and has a ok paint job to boot but it doesnt seem a popular choice for some reason (can anyone explain why), i have looked for a taigen tiger but i cant seem to find one,i have a spektrum dx7 that i would like to use on this one once i have bought some electrics for the tank or can i buy a tank from anywhere with upgraded electrics etc already installed so i can bind and drive it maybe,i just dont like the cheap heng long controllers, so any sugestions please would be great, thanks in advance.

Hi Tanked Up.

There is so many tanks available out there it depends what your after. You mention metal upgrades and extra weight, now I know a lot of people go this route but I've a HL Tiger and HL KV1 with all metal gear each weighing 6-7kg and too be honest although handle realistic the extra hassle of damaged running gear I don't think makes it worth while unless you have bottom less pockets to pay for repairs all the time.

I've just got myself a HL ZTZ99a tank which I think is great, but already knee deep in improvements to my liking, like adding IR battle system faster motors etc.

So what i'm trying to say is once you start the upgrade process it kind of becomes an addiction and you find problems which aren't just so you can improve things. So if you go that route pick a tank with loads of readily available parts like the Tiger or upgrade the internals of your Tiger.

If you want to ditch the HL controller you'll need a product like RC2HL from RC TAnk Australia which converts stuff to work with the RX18 but as it's a new product it's currently out of stock.

I got mine from Lewis @ panzer command (his shop is on ebay). When I bought it Lewis told me Mato have released metal tracks and drive wheels for it but as far as I know that is the only upgrade available, apart from the usual parts which are shared between the HL tanks like gearboxes etc.

So far I've added IR, Mako board so can battle with Tamiya tanks, ATRC (Anti Track Recoil Circuit), Tried fitting a high voltage flash but with the BB gun in there could easily feed the flash up the barrel. And in process of adding faster motors. So all these upgrades a generic and could be done to any HL tank.

If you are thinking of buying a Panther make sure its a Panther G and not the older inaccurate version which is refered to as the pantiger.

Hi Tanked up,

Are you referring to this one...

If so, this is the one I am going to purchase. I am just waiting for them to come back in stock.

Hi Tanked up,

I know you can get it here for £175.99
http://www.alactive.co.uk/Taigen_Advanc ... 88068.aspx

It is the only site in the UK that have it in stock (and not on the blacklist).

I am waiting for the other site to get them in as they are cheaper. The owner said it takes about 6-8 weeks from ordering, and informs people about a week before.

I'll keep you posted.

Have you tried Panzer Command on Ebay, Lewis is a Taigen stockist and sometimes have stock which isn't listed in the store.

My Taigen Hand Painted Tiger Camo - Full Metal Upgrade Version arrived today. One happy bunny :)

It's more impressive in real life than it is in the promo pics.
