Ok so we are getting somewhere , now the next thing is to scale up the tracks , once we have that size we can look at donor tanks , as the tracks and running gear is hard to scratch build

This is very good advise,the drive and tracks are the foundation,and from experience the most expensive components.

Possibly the Armortek forum for sale section may help,I was able to find and purchase a fine set of sprockets and 210 tracks with pins for a Bargain.

Perhaps Mark has a set of plans or other details about his build that could help you determine the best course of action,here are a few large scale sites.

right, as for tracks and drive, i wasn't really planning on re-creating te tracks all that detailed (since i dont have access to the tools needed for it. so anything metal is out of the question) i was thinking, 2X bike chains with wooden planks in between? it won't look good, but it'll do the job, right?

and as for drive, im not sure what you mean by that? do you mean what motors i want to use? if so, im planning on using 2 18v drill engines, or perhaps something larger if any of you have any ideas?

These guys build and battle using paintball cannon,but their is alot of good resource information here. I may have a set of nylon tracks you could use,they are Tiger type 1/6 scale.

awesome, i'll check it out later today, and thanks for the offer but i want to keep the build as cheap as possible, so scratch-building tracks takes my preference over buying pre-made tracks.

Just measured my 1/6 king tiger tracks and they are12.5 cm wide, what width are you looking at for scale, I don't want to put you off but a build of this scale won't be cheap , most of the tanks this scale use large electric motors from wheel chair/scooters , then you will need either 1 or 2 12v batteries , only need 2 if your going 24v, then you will need two speed controllers , the ones I would recommend are 4qd's I bought two of these plus the interface the other month £240 , but our tanks weigh between 120/160 kg, if you built it using ply wood and kept the weight down you could getaway with cheaper smaller gear, a bane blade this scale would be impressive , but have you thought about going smaller ie a chimera, that way you could build one hull but different tops, ie chimera, hellhound or basilisk, or by a1/6 scale rc Stuart tank , and convert it to a leman russ?but don't let me put you off , im just giving you a list of ideas

well i'll try to keep it as light as possible, so the body will probably be made out of either wood, or plexiglass. but now that i'm reading on, i'm starting to think that the engines i planned on using (18v drill motors) won't be sufficient.

would using more motors do the job? i'm trying to prevent having to go for stronger motors, which would probably require larger batteries, costing me even móre money

does anyone here have any experience using drill engines? it would be nice to hear stories of other people and the hurdles they overcame.

and [ice], im still not quite certain what the actual model is going to be. im just trying to decide the scale, and what design tank i'll build will be decided later. for now i just know that i want it to have tracks, a turret and that it can shoot :p

The motors should be fine, though you will need two 12v batteries, on the other hand you could run them on 12v and they would give youba slower speed but I don't Think the speed controllers will work because the dedicated tank ones have a cable from them that plugs into the receiver
