Hi mate !
They look fantastic & i recon they punch some real low end GRUNT ! I wished id seen them before ordering my 4:1 gearboxes
The only issue may be the speed, or lack of it.............i think ?, as im a beginer to this so forgive me if im wrong. But i prefer them slower. When i do another Tiger i will consider this gearbox for sure

All the best

I'm thinking the torque should be amazing, and speed should be good with 480 motors and rx18. Just need to save up now!

Guys,

Don't instantly expect the 5:1 to be low ratio. Only way to know is to use the gearbox calculator (although doesn't have latest gearboxes in). This calculator takes into account motor rpm, gear ratio from motor to final drive, and the drive sprocket.

You be suprised how much difference the drive sprocket makes. If you have a Tiger or something with large sprocket it will be faster than a Bulldog or Pershing with exactly the same gearbox and motor. I go as far to say you probably don't need low ratio gearboxes with the Bulldog or Pershing due to the small drive sprocket.

480 motors are awesome but may not fit every type of gearbox due to the clearance, plus just watch the runnning current so you don't blow your RX18. Mine are rated at 5A each and no issues but wouldn't risk going much higher.

cheers Ian, that's exactly why I joined this forum, to take advantage of everyones experience. I think the graupner speed 480s fit the tiger gearboxes just. Is the calcula5or on the forum anywhere?

Here you go. Fifth one down in the list.

Problem is as the file is a few years old it doesn't have any of the new gearboxes in by Mato. If you already have the gearbox it is possible to count the teeth on each cog and input it yourself (this is what I did with the Mato 4:1)

Also if you don't know the Graupner 480 motors there is two types one low current and other high current draw make sure you get the low current version. And the shaft is a different diameter to the 380 motors so need to drill out of find a suitable pinion (pain in ass in UK)

I went for Jamara Lipo 480 motors as only ones which have a 2.3mm shaft
